Guard is a great skill for a human lineman to take on doubles, and you certainly made the right choice about getting an apothecay. If you're looking for a good defence against Elves, I'd go with the old 3-4-4 defence. If they're DE's with frenzy, keep players at least two squares off the sideline, of course.

I agree with skummy, Guard is a great choice of skill for Linemen, get as many as you can.
Like you I was lucky early on with one of my line men, gave him guard and used him to support a blitzer which, in most cases will have the effect of giving you a ST4 blitzer. Quite a help early on, good for punching holes in your opponents defence.
I too bought an apoth' after my first game and since then haven't had to use him for 4 games. If that is what having one means then he's worth it just for that.
Doh! Gone and jinxed that now havn't I!
Good luck.

I like the starting roster you chose. I would also consider Dauntless unless your thinking of getting an Ogre later. As a first skill though Guard seems the obvious choice, to help your thrower not as a LOS man.

Dauntless is also a great skill. I'd probably alternate the two for lineman who roll doubles.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned block for the lineman yet!!!!!!
Yep, Guard is a good skill, but the block skill is so important with the dice, it increases your defensive prowess no end.
If you wanted to go for a team with a bit more drive I would consider opting for one more blitzer. They can be developed well to suit a number of different tasks.
They can make a good replacement for a catcher, if you can give them sure hands and dodge after 16 spps.

Block would be a waste of that double skill roll...

Just that you don't throw doubles that often. Give him guard, use him for defense purposes near the trower untill he has block for a next skill.
Never (well almost never) waste a double!

Sh*t.
I missed the bit about doubles!!!!!!!!!
I should learn to read more carefully.
Still, block is very important, honestly........sincerely........

I would go with Gaurd or Leader.
As for a defense against elves definatly the 3-4-4. If you aren't familar with it check out the article on the House Rulez site.I forget waht issue it was in but it was a very nice article. Looks like you took a great starting roster and made a smart purchase already, keep it up.

Not keen on Leader personally. I see it as a skill to get after you have all you want, a bit of a luxury.

Leader isn't just fluff because he has the orge.
But yes Guard is more important, and you can hope for dubs with another lineman...
2 guys with guard is 3 or 4 times better then 1
I've never seen a team with 3 guys with guard...
Is it as scary as it seems?

Yes, be afraid be very afraid.
But with his ogre 2 would be scary enough as it is.
