Newbie question about "guard" for WEs

Heyas everyone,

just a quick and (probably) stoopid question from a noob:

I have read a lot about team development.
Everyone seems to sugest "Guard" as a great skill for WE linelves if one is rolling doubles.

In thé living rulebook, guard is listed as a strength trait, and Woodelf linelves are listed to only be able to get General and Agility skills.

What am I missing here ? Can the take Guard (it being a strength based trait) or not ? Is this from historical reasons ? Can I take ANY trait regardless if I am qualified to take a skill from the section (eg, could I even take a physical based trait even tho I cannot take a physical based skill) ?

confused ...

Thanks in advance,

CF

Guard is a strength skill, the other is a typo.

In my LRB it is listed as a Strength Skill. Not a trait. That's probably why you are confused! :smoking:

Probably obvious here, but if you roll a double you can take any skill or trait apart from physical ones for WE's. Otherwise you are restricted to the ones listed for your players.

Night Dragon: Not exactly correct. On doubles you can get any trait that is in a category the player can normally choose from or get any skill that is in a category they cannot normally choose from. I.E. Human lineman on double can get the trait dauntless but could not get the trait stand firm. That same lineman could get skill catch but could not get the trait Nerves of Steel.

heheh ALSO not exactly correct. A human lineman COULD get nerves of steel on a doubles roll, because it is a general trait. what he COULDN'T do would be take Jump Up, which is an Agility trait.

who ISN'T lost right now? :)

So the answer is yes, he can take guard, because he got dubs, and guard is a cross-class skill (not trait)

correct. :)

i got so wrapped up in answering the post directly above me that i forgot all about the original question.

summary:

on a normal roll you may take:
skills from your assigned categories

on a doubles roll you may take:
skills from your assigned categories
skills from other categories
traits from your assigned categories

under NO circumstances may you take:
traits from other categories

can't make it much clearer than that.

Let's add:

You can't get physical mutations unless your team is allegeable to them. And if your team is allegeable then you can't take racial characteristics.

A human with RSC is impossible
A Chaos Warrior with Hypnotic Gaze ditto!

That's it. Wesleytj said it all. :smoking:

Whoops how embarassing. I was thinking that NOS was an AGI trait.
