Hi there to all BB fans!
I am a really newbie player of BB, and just to start i signed in a quite difficult league in my home town (Madrid, Spain) filled with bloody experienced players... I dont know if they'll have any mercy but here i am to gather from you all as many knowledge as possible to kick some butts!!
In fact i have two questions:
One, how my team looks and two, how to handle experienced players, tips and useful strategies...
My team is an Orc one, and its provisional line up is:
2 Black Orcs (160k)
2 Blitzers (160k)
1 Thrower (70k)
2 Goblins (80k)
5 Linemen (250k)
Apoth (50k)
3 TRR (180k)
5 FF (50k)
I nave minis for another 2 BOB and 2 Blitzers, another gobbo, a ogre and several linemen...
The rest of the teams (i think we are going to be arround 16 teams or so) are quite variated, with several elfs and humans...
I already know a tactics website in blood-bowl.net, but i will appreciate any tips from you all, more-than-proffesional players!!!; things like purchases, skill alocation... whatever you can offer is great!!
Thanks for all and continue with the BB fever!!
Cheeeeeeers!

Hi Mack, welcome to TBB
Im not very experienced with Orc teams (im a norse man myself) but i'll give you my $2.
Id drop the Gobbo's for now and bang in another Black Orc, you gobos will get torn apart running around in the other teams half. Atleast if you have a 3rd Black Orc your front line will hold for that little bit longer. Their S4 and high AV should keep them alive long enough for them to get Block.
Once you have the money i'd buy that Ogre and a few gobbo's, together these guys can really make a difference scoring TD's in 1-2 turns.
Also, another Blitzer wouldnt go a miss and a few more linemen to bulk out your team.
As ive said, im not an Orc player and so my advice might be different from that of a real Orc player. Hope it helps.

Take the 4 available BOB's. Not because they are good, but because you need to build up the BOB's to make them usefull.

Not to blame you for 'wrong thread' or nonsense like that but check out the Team Development thread for starting rosters. Lots of good opinions there.
As for taking on experienced coaches, the first step is not to get too rushed or think through your moves. The biggest newbie mistake in my opinion is not knowing all the possiblities for a play, leaping at one the looks good- an example is dodging away when blitzing and not following to get away might have reduced the chance of failure.

As a former orc player, the best advice I can give you is to keep your ideas and plays simple on offence, and really try anything you cna on defence. Hit anything that presents itself, and once you get hold of the ball, do not let it go..don't be eager to pass or hand off. Even if that means surrounding hte thrower and moving en masse down the pitch to the end zone in 5 turns..it's a little boring, but it will help you win some games...

well, thanks all for the info...
In fact I have been thinking and reading arround a lot and i have two more questions:
First: How to move Da Cage?
I mean, imagine that, as the theory says, you surround your ball carrier with at least, lets say, 6 or 7 players. The most of the cage will have to block (enemies will try to get close to them!), so they do not move... so?... how you advance? I dont know if i explained myself ok, but...
My second question is... if chaos teams are a nightmare and so powerful in killing and injuring enemies... what about the orc team? is as strong, more resistant and cheaper!
Thanks for all guys

I quite like the
3 BOB
2 Blitzer
2 Thrower
4 Line Orc
3 TRR
8 FF
However Goblins are useful so I might take 1 instead of a line orc. Either boosting FF to 9 or upgrade a thrower to a Blitzer.
You don't need all 3 BOBs to start - but they are slow developers so its good to get them early.

To move the cage.
If you have to block a lot of players with orcs, then by all means do so and the wait until next turn to move the cage.
You are stronger, have more armour and strengtskills.
Killing and maiming with chaos or orcs
Chaos have strengthskills (meaning mighty blow and piling on) on all players, orcs only on 8.
Chaos can get claw and fangs on all players.
Chaos has AG3 and MA5 on their ST4 players meaning they are less likely to get stuck somewhere.
Chaos warriors can handle the ball meaning they will advance faster (TD and completions) than black orcs.
Chaos have better linemen.
This is why chaos causes more casualties than orcs, but orcs are close behind.

That's the primary reason. Otherwise my money would be on Orcs - because Orcs get hurt less, meaning a better chance of getting numerical superiority - which in turn allows you to get up more and better blocks.

I agree with Ian too, IMHO the physical traits are an advantage, but you have to roll doubles to get them (no?) and the orc high AV is free since the begginning...
anyway, i liked the team Ian suggested... definitelly changing that thrower for the blitzer (if i roll a double on one of them i'll get sure hands and make him my ball carrier...)

I would always get Tackle first. You are going to be able to move the ball soon enough, but stopping the heavy dodge teams will be far more difficult. Blitzers on the Orcs are the only position with wheels- unless you like to do your blitzing with Goblins.

Skills wise tackle is great for those dodger teams but id only give it to a few lineorc's and place them on your wings (just incase they deside to try and dodge their way around you). The rest of your lineorc's id give block as their 1st skill (same with the black orc's) just to keep them on their feet. That being said you might want to give 1 kick or dirty player? Kick is so much more useful than id realised and dirty player is great for taking out those big players (in an experienced league your bound to come up against a few big guys or big skilled-up guys) and it's just a very orcy skill to have.
