new---looking at starting cd

I'm new to bb. Played only a little bit around 1990-91 ( I think 2ed?). There is a league here that just finished comprised of 24 teams and coaches. They are planning to expand to 32 teams. Mostly bashy teams but have some agilty 2 to 1 most likely. They play 2 exhibition games (get cash and SPP's but don't count against season record) then play a 16 game regular season followed by playoffs. They haven't decided on what the house rules will be next season with the new rules review (all I know is they aren't really happy about Pon, 3 los, or new WA.

I have been playing CD. I like the strength and the BC is awesome. My question is about starting line-up. I have done a search and there are several general suggestions, but I thought if those with experience with CD could reply given the particulars of this league I would appreciate it.

Right now I am leaning towards this:

6 CD
4 hobo
1 BC
4 RR
9ff

But the idea of starting with 2 BC and having 2 pre season games to get them 6 SPP's is tempting...Or a BG Block

You could drop one re-roll and buy the second bc after your first game. Then an apo after the second, if everything goes well. 12 players plus apo sounds like a more reliable start-up.

But from what I have seen on cds so far, they are a quick starting team, so have fun with it ...

if you go to the tactics and team development section of the board there is a sticky topic with starting rosters for all the teams.

sorry if this sounds like i'm being a bit harsh, i didn't mean it to sound that way

I'd always start with both Bull Centaurs. IMO they are more important than having all 6 Dwarves.

There are several ways of starting a CD team. The main question is 0 BC, 1 BC or 2 BCs ... many different opinions on that :)

I started our league with exactly your lineup, bought an apo then the second BC, then a troll. The great thing about starting with 4 RRs is that don't have to waste any money on double cost RRs before you really don't need the cash anymore and that it gives your game lots of reliablity from the start.

I agree with Tim.

Starting with as many rerolls as possible is always a good thing.

Is this for a long term league or a short term league? If it's long term, then I'd try to start with 6 CD's right away, since they take the longest to get SPP's. Bull Centarus will score touchdowns, so you can add one relatively late and still get a great player 10-15 games in.

thanks for input

Thanks for all of your input.

I did check the thread out about starting line-ups but was wondering about a specific situation.(I didn't take it bad, evil git) There might be a stronger line-up based on short or long term development. This team will only have 2 preseason games, 16 regular season games, then playoffs(hopefully). They also do not roll teams over from year to year, they all start over new. So I will be playing against other tr100 teams.

Ian- I too would like to start with 2 BC's, but that 4th reroll is so tempting to start with. The only way to do both means I'm playing hobo team, not very forgiving for newbie, I think. But the 2nd BC is first purchase after apo.

Tim- when you started out with that line-up what did you do right and wrong in getting SPP's and developing the team?

So do you all think:
6cd
4 hobo
1bc
4rr
9ff

is the way to go for a league with basically 18 games and playoffs, and then end?

Thanks for all of your help!

Yes, that's a good lineup for that situation.

Personally, I would buy:

1. Apothecary
2. Troll
3. 2nd Bull Centaur
4. Hobgoblin replacements as needed.

A lot of people may disagree about the Troll before the BC, but I think he's going to need the games to make sure he has block for the playoffs.

BC's can score touchdowns and advance fairly quickly.

??
BC's have AG 2 like the CD's. Not that good at scoring. The hobbo's do most of the work there.

They are great blitzers though because they can run far and have STR 4 to start with! :smoking:

I'm guessing you haven't played too many Chaos Dwarf teams, have you Draco? Check out Tims guideline to coaching CD's. Bull Centaurs are the main scoring threat on the team, when coached well.
