Did anyone mention $settings['default_visitor_league'] = 1; in settings.php? This will cause all kinds of problems if the league with the id of 1 does not exist. Configure it to a 5 in your case. I only skimmed through this so I don't know if this was already done.

Vanguard - I set your settings.php with $settings['default_visitor_league'] = 5; and it looks like it fixed the problem. All kinds of strange and tough to troubleshoot problems happen when that points to a league that doesn't exist.

Thanks for that little fix, I was just going to edit the Settings_1.php to have a welcome message to non users etc, but your way works better!
