JAVA and Pbem for LRB 5.0

However you play online - Java, Vassal, Email, Cyanide etc - talk about it here.
This is also the place for discussing the various tools for managing leagues, teams and so on.

JAVA and Pbem for LRB 5.0

Post by voyagers_uk »

Have these been created as yet?

my tabletop league will have a member in exile and we need a way to ensure that we efficiently play with the same ruleset.

Java would be preferable but Pbem would be ok at a pinch.

Not sure how SkiJunkie is coming along updating the Java for the new rules. PBeM is up and running already, though some of the changes from PBBL 1.11 to LRB 5 have not been implemented yet.

Do we have to go back to LRB4 rules?

I'm in a similar predicament in terms of "teams in exile" :(
At this point, LRB5 matches are only possible with the PbEM tool.

The Java client is being attempted by a group independent of fumbbl, but they're only just starting out.

The best I can think of is setting up a game day between two players and having them instant message their PbEM turns back and forth. It takes roughly the same time to play as on the tabletop.

Remember the PBeM tool is only compliant with the PBBL 1.11 rules. It's not completely upto date with the LRB 5.0 (PBBL 1.12) rules.
Changes between the PBeM tool and LRB 5 can be found on this document:

PBeM is at present only missing the 3D6 roll for FF and automating Sneaky Git. Everything else is good to go.

Galak

No firm word on Javabowl. I'd guess it's probably 4-6 months away.

From my experience of programming, I think the main hold up is the ball ache is the coding of inducements. Skill mechanics haven't changed massively, but the inducements is a whole new stage!

There is. On fumbbl there is now a LRB 5 experimental section.
Haven´t tried it yet, because of lack of time but is says that some features are not yet incorporated.

They try to emulate LRB 5.0 with the old 4.0 client. :?:

I don't think LRB 5 can be done without any serious reprogramming...
