Tournament rules for new annual tourney

Post by simplegame »

I can't seem to find a thread with a discussion on what rules are used in tournaments.
We run an annual con in the Denver, CO (USA) area. We are looking at adding an annual Blood Bowl Tournament starting with the Feb 2010 convention.

Is there a good place to find out what rules other tournament organizers are using?

Do you reset teams after each round?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi simplegame. There isn't a dedicated thread to tourny rules, but if you look through the Tournament Posting topic and click on some of the tournys listed, you will see that (usually) they have a link to the rules packs somewhere within the first post. That will give you some idea of what is out there.

A couple of things that come up quite a bit are:

TR100/110 resurrection tournaments where teams gain a skill or two after each round. (check out the BBGT specific thread for an example)

TR100/110 resurrection tournaments where teams choose a specific skill set before the tournament (check out the Waterbowl Weekender)

TR100/110 resurrection tournaments where your get a budget to buy skills for your team (check out the Monkeybowl and the Flame Bowl)

Tournaments where players get to veto one of the their opponents skills in each game (Check out the Club Challenge and the Gryphonbowl)

Of course, there are a lot of other variations out there and there is no need to neccesarily follow anyone else's tourny rules. There is a lot of scope for creativity, so if you have something in mind, just post away and people will give you feedback.

Re: your question about resetting teams after each round. This is usually the case (this is what resurrection tourny refers to), but is not always the case e.g. the Britcon this year ran as a league.

ressurection style is more common around europe

austrailia for example they use the standard league rules for a lot of their tournaments

there is no one set of standard rules so just grab some rules packs from various tournaments and have a look through them and adjust to what you would like

same goes with scoring systems etc
