Because the BB rules are pretty robust, there's rarely any need for reffing decisions. Therefore, a full-time non-playing ref is not generally required. An experienced tournament player can usually do the job.

They are very very rarely called for with my tourney i'm also head ref (you only need one) and sit as odd man out so i play if theres an odd number of attendees and sit out if theres an even number you can always handle any descisions that come up quickly without any disruption to your game.

iirc in 6 tourneys i've run i've only had to make 3 ref descisions thats over 485 individual games
