My first tournament

Post by Oly1987 »

Attending the poo bowl which is my first tournament and actually, the first time ive played a full game on the tabletop. Using Don_Vito's human team (my team are still being painted) i entered the first day with 1 goal in mind. To win at least 1 game this weekend and hopefully avoid the wooden spoon.
My first game was against PurpleGoo who was fielding a lizardmen team. This was my first ever game on the tabletop and was beaten 2-0 although i took some comfort from causing 4 casualties to the lizzie.
My second game was against Pug and his dwarves. After a truely astounding kick off from the dwarves (landing on the LOS on the opposite side to where i set up) i went to do my 2d blitz with my blitzer only to roll double skulls. After salvaging a push with a RR i was desperate to get the ball and sent a thrower to pick it up and throw it to the other thrower only for him to fail to catch it although at least it was safe. Second turn i tried to pass to my catcher who could break through the dwarf line with a single dodge and be away if he caught it, which he didnt manage to do. After that it went downhill and Pug broke through my armour like it was paper causing a total 7? (Pug will have to confirm) KO's in the game. 3 or 4 of those were in 1 turn too! In the end the score finished 2-1 to Pug with the potential for Pug to score right at the end and after he failed a ball bounce in the right direction gave me the slimmest of chances to get an equalizer but it wasnt to be.
3rd game was against CeeTee and his dark elves. The game was a good one with both coaches playing quite tentatively. In the first half a strong cage prevented CeeTee from getting to me and after slowly creeping up the field an end of half breakaway saw me 1-0 up at half time. Second half he managed to equalise fairly quickly and i started a grind up the pitch to look for a 2-1 win. With little time to spare a couple of mistakes from myself presented CeeTee with an opporunity and he managed to surf my ball carrier and got a lucky (even CeeTee will agree) throw in which landed deep in my half allowing him to get a late 2-1 victory. Im not bitter CeeTee honest! (but seriously he's a really nice guy and i look forward to playing him again we had a really good tight match)
4th game saw me in the losers circle (the 4 teams that were 0-0-3 were together on 2 boards over 2 tables and we werent deemed worthy of a light!) and i was playing Geospence and his pro elves which had suffered badly throughout the day. It didnt start well for the elves and a pitch invasion stunned 3 elves for none of my humans. I then managed to blitz the ball carrier on my turn and proceeded to beat down the elves and score to make a 1-0 score to me at halftime. Second half i recieved and my stalling just left me with my catcher on the TD line and geospence manage to make a tackle zone. Last turn and all i needed to do was make a 3+ reroll dodge roll for the 2-0.... Which i promptly failed. This left the ball near the feet of one of geo's elves and he eyed up a 7 roll 1 turn touchdown but luckily for me (and unfortunate for geo) his luck stayed as it had all game and he failed the first roll.
I won a game! And now i just need to avoid the wooden spoon. Hoping for maybe a win on the Sunday but we'll see how things pan out. I'll keep you posted

4 catchers and a thrower with hail mary pass, what could possibly go wrong?
