Discuss Fantasy football-style board games - GW's Blood Bowl, Impact!'s Elfball, Privateer Press' Grind, Heresy's Deathball, etc. THIS IS NOT AN NFL FANTASY FOOTBALL SITE!
Some of the elf teams can struggle in tournaments. Because even an elf lineman is so expensive (70k) often elf teams lack one or more of the following:
-enough rerolls
-any reserves
-enough positional players (blitzers, catchers etc.)
-an apothecary (elves are fragile and really need one)
Pro elf linemen are cheaper so they don't suffer as much from the above - however at AV7, the dead box can get overcrowded very quickly. On the bright side pro elf blitzers are exceptionally good (if expensive).
If you're just starting out, humans might be a better option. They're good to average at pretty much all aspects of the game. Also they get lots of user friendly skills like block, dodge, sure hands, catch etc.
I'd also add that the ag/frag (translation: agile/fragile) teams such as the elves also lack for skills early in the event making pweening them (translation: beating them up) fairly easy. Larger TR tournies, such as 105 and 110, can mitigate some of these issues as can tournies that front load the skills.

continuing on from this separate (but interesting ) debate...
"Front loading" (allowing multiple skills at the beginning of the tournament - for those who weren't already aware) may well give e.g. the elf teams their required quota of bock/dodge etc. However, it would also give the teams that already possess sufficient basic skills the opportunity to add bonus skills e.g. guard/DP/whatever takes your fancy.
For instance, front loaded elves may take dodge on blitzers and block on catchers but they might have to play against half a dozen guardeners if the played dwarfs (or e.g. amazons )
So not sure how front loading who alleviate the probs with the elf teams...
i think i am goin to go with humans as i have the most experience with them (bar halflings) so il try not to pick up the wooden spoon on my 1st tournement by at least using the team im most familiar with...

If Hangus turns up you don't need to worry about winning the wooden spoon

Embarassingly enough I think our last three games have been two draws and a win to you
