Hi Guys,
Thanks for a great weekend. had 6 great games and loads of Fun.
Ref the painting award.
Both the Amazons and the Undead are painted by a friend of mine in America. I have other teams painted by the same guy. I have been to MANY tournements over the past year and have never tried to pass of them off as my own work. I have always been open and honest about this. Harriet and I did tell the organisers and all of our opponents that we didn't paint them ourselves.
I am am flattered that so many people liked the paintwork. But feel quite bad now. We are regulars on the tournament scene and would like to think that we are well respected. Harriet was not expecting the award, as we never enter our teams forward for competitions as we dont paint them ourselves. She was overwelmed by being called the winner. It wasn't until later in the evening that we realised the possible consequences.
Therefore could someone (Sascha?) Please post up the team and the coach with the most votes not including my teams and I will gladly send the award to the rightful owner.
Take care
Ian

Dont get this wrong Ian. No one says its your or harriets fault. There is no need to give the award back. Its just to tell GW to change this in the next year.stick_with_poo_on_the_end wrote:Hi Guys,

Ian, Harriet, no need to feel bad at all. Really.
I talked to Sascha about this topic before the painting vote and he said that this is the way they want to do it. Their tournaments, their rules. Personally i prefer to see the painter awarded rather than the player who fields the team, but i don't see it as a big issue if somebody wants to do it differently. After all, if the player does not come forward and tell the organizers it's not his paintjob, he's gonna get the award anyway.
I think the best way would be to pick the best teams, then ask the player if he wants to enter it into best painted, if yes, put it up for the vote. I can think of situations where it would be OK to enter a team you didn'nt paint yourself ... for example when you play the team of a friend that spend 6 months painting for this one tournament and then can't attend accidentially.

I second that, too. No fault of Harriet for sure !!! And my compliments to the painter of this team again !!Dont get this wrong Ian. No one says its your or harriets fault. There is no need to give the award back. Its just to tell GW to change this in the next year.

If the organisators (in this case GW) like to do it this way, we cant do anything against it but to take it. I´m just wondering myself, if GW like to get the best painted team overall just for picts for the WhiteDwarf or the website ? And the other homemade, ehm, "homepainted" teams arent good enough for this ? Hm...

I just hope, after some thinking, it will be changed next time. Or some people, willing to spent some money, will get their teams painted in the USA or China, or cheaper, in India, Scri Lanka or other third world countries somewhere else. ( And before i get some flaming... i´m counting the USA not into this category... just to make it sure !!!

And, in my case, i dont like to competite against this kind of " professionels". ( Or i will paint a great Ogre team just for the best Painted, but will play my trusted Humans next tourny?

Painting
Hey Guys,
this caused much more trouble than the last year(s)
MY point of view:
1. I looked at the painting award in a naive way; in my "perfect" world the guy/girl who painted the team will receive the award by the guy who takes it on the tourney. The team was best painted (so the name of the award). So I didn't just ignore the guys who told me about this (like Ian, Tim and ...), but saw this matter in my own way - like we did it the past 3 years (remember Best painted 2004?).
2. My orga instinct tells me, that it COULD need much more afford to control if people painted their teams by themselves and will rely much on trust and the sportmanship of the coaches (YOU) in this special case, to keep this real.
BUT
I got this already on my "to fix list" for 2008. So there is no need to feel bad, or even give the trophy back. I'm sorry guys that this leaves more than 2 pages of discomford and also a coach who feels bad about this.

Sascha,
you know we are germans. We have one big problem. Even if everything is perfect, we find something to talk and discuss about
Dont think this painting has spoiled the fun of anyone of us. Its just an "advice" to make it maybe another way 2008. And since you allready have it on your "to fix list" everything is fine.
Cheers

Absolutely great tournament once again! Very tired by the time I got home but I can remember some of the highlights:
- Winning Most Sporting Opponent. I'm thrilled to have been awarded this and would just to say thanks to all the people I played. Every single game was fun and every opponent friendly - I had no hesitation in awarding you all a full 2 points for each game.
- Best game of the tournament is probably game 6 vs. Manuel Schultz. VERY VERY tough game, taught me a lot of lessons about Wood Elves and I was very lucky to pull off a draw.
- Most memorable game was probably game 5. If you are playing in a tournament and are 1-0 down, getting Blitzed on the kick off, followed by a perfect defence and a three turn riot is quite bad. To get it in the "semi final" of a major tournament is crazy
- Watching Geggster stumble around the hotel room walking into tables/walls because of all the tequila he'd had
See you all next year...
