what would entice you to come
There are a few of us around here who are planning a new tournament for next year in Ipswich and I am putting the feelers out to see what would entice you to come.
currently in the melting pot we have:
a venue with a bar which is on a central location and walking distance from the train and bus stations
food deffinatly lunch on both days at the mo
limited edition spot prizes ( they will be a must have for any blood bowler)
possibly a limited edition mini from Impact minatures for everyone who attends
naf rated
Tritex games and possibly others with their wares for sale
and a reasonable ticket price with naf discounts
so what would you like to see or is this what you would like from a tournament

That sort of date may clash with Strongbowl, Monkeybowl and PKQ all in the UK, and Easter when people have other commitments.
In terms of things to attract coaches my advice is to work out your budget, and how many coaches you need to break even for the very basics of the event (venue and prizes). Then scale up what you are offering on the basis of realistic expectations. IE if you need 20 coaches to break even on the basics, and you get those signed up and paid, then look to splash out on freebies or extras. The first time I did PKQ I overcommitted on costs before I was certain of receipts and almost saddled myself with significant costs, fortunately that was not the case, but I had to go through a week or two of stress before the books were balanced in the black! You should rememder that the tournament organiser is bearing the financial risk, and without club funds to fall back on that could mean your bank balance is at risk.
One thing that isn't on your list is accomodation - you don't need to provide it but it is helpful if you make it really easy for coaches to find places to stay.
Finally depending on date, I'd come along - Ipswich isn't far

the accomodation is noted there are plenty of places to stay nearby that are reasonable I will put together a guide when the time comes.
Thanks for the imput Al its always good to get that from an experienced tourni organiser don't worry sticking to the budget and getting the most out of it is top of the agenda.
As for the date the original march/april date was to get it nicely inbetween the dutch open and the bloodbowl but if pearlies is going to be in april next year we may move it back a bit to a time when there is relativly little happening on the tourni circuit.

I didn't mean to muscle you out of March/April, I just recall this year when it suddenly became jammed up with tournaments. In the UK March/April August then Sept/October seem to be the busy times when two or more tournaments run close together. June seems a good spot and next year there won't be the World Cup to compete with - my venue is just too hot and un air conditioned for the time of year

Don't worry about it al you haven't muscled us out of march/april as we don't want to have it on at the same time as other tournies that we probably will attend and to get this sort of feedback and to find a date that suits alot of people is the point of posting.
Looking at next years calender I will probably aim for the weekend of the 16th and 17th of june provided i can get the venue for these date (if theres a wedding on that would take priority)
