Newquay 24 hour event

Post by Hudson »

I've been tempted with doing one of these since doing the one in Holland last year. I had a great time and would love to do one again, so i thought i'd see about doing one of my own.

I seem to have a venue sorted in principle now. It's a show hall at a shopping village just outside Newquay. No problem with size, food shouldn't be an issue and most important it has a license for drink.
I'm looking around the Feb March time as getting places for people to stay will be easier around that time.
Another bonus is there is a Premier Inn Hotel just next door that i'm going to approach about room offers.

What i'm looking for is, would people be willing to come down for the event if i could sort out cheap accommodation for the weekend. Bring your partner. Plenty for them to do even in the winter. The Eden Project is close and open all year round.

So what do you think, could it be a go'er?

Very interested in principle, but would depend on the date.

Yes i know its a pain, i live here.

Date would be selected so as not to clash or be to close to any other comp.
Planed cost would be between £10 and £20.
All food and drink would be provided for free.
I'd try and sort cheap accommodation in the hotel next door.

Just played my second 24hs of BB in Italy after the 24hs in Holland of the last year.

They were a blast.

If possible I'll try to play my 3rd 24hs ... maybe at Newquay?

Interested, but second this. Getting to and from Newquay is exhausting in itself, and adds at least another 2 days (and thus night's accomodation) to the trip.

Anywhere in the midlands or London you could travel up on the Saturday morning, not need anywhere to sleep, then travel home on the Sunday night.

Hey
Remember i have to travel from newquay everytime i go to any comp.
I know what it's like to travel to and from here. It's not great but it's not that bad. plenty of other ways to get here, train and plane. why would i want to organise it in the midlands etc when i live down here and have what looks like a good venue and trying to organise cheap rooms in a hotel for people.

Obviously depends on the exact date but in principle I'm definitely in. I'm always going to have to travel a fair distance for a tourney so may as well be Newquay!

Just looked this up:

spotty dog

1. Exc. Spotty Dog!
2. adj. Spotty Dog

Descriptive of that which is excellent. A synonym for Good, Super, Wicked, Fantastic, Brilliant and so on.

Predominately used in the North East of England.

Indeed it is!
Spottus Doggus can indeed be found the world over, wherever any of our lads serve (says lads, cos haven't heard it used by many lasses - service or otherwise!).

in response to a 24 hour Tourney in Newquay.....

Yes, it's a long way to go...
but, for the amount of games being played it would be worth it!

i'm assuming you'd be going for something along the 11 game scenario?

only played the GT this year, after very long BB absence but really enjoyed it & acquitted myself well.

so, yeah, definitely up for it!

you'll have to watch date/s though, WaterBowl in Manchester is going to be on around that time (understand the exact dates to be announced very soon). Haven't done WB but am 99% definite to attend next year.

Would be sweet doing WB & Newquay 24hr within few weeks!

Yep, 11 game format is planned.
I'll be getting in contact with organisers of other comps on around that time to make sure i can get a date thats not right before or after one of their events.
