White Isle Star Bowl II - Proposal thread.
Hello!
After the enormous (40 coaches!!) success of the inaugural WISB, I thought it would be criminal not to run it again.
However, those clever people at GW have decided to charge me an extortionate amount of cash to host another tournament there next year. This would up the ticket price by about £10 per person, and I'm not prepared to go with that.
Fortunately, I have another option, which might be even better. The Eye of the Storm, the gaming hall run by Maelstrom Games. It is just down the road in Mansfield and has an excellent gaming hall, restaurant, bar, and a shop with an additional discount for tourny gamers over their already discounted prices!
It is also cheaper than GW, sothe ticket price would come down.
I can promise a host of quality prizes, fun and unique rules (tweaked cleverly from this year), excellent organisation, and I might even make the quiz questions easier this time.
So, would people still be up for it if it were in Mansfield instead of Nottingham?
PErhaps some of the regulars who went to the BB tourny earlier this year could offer some useful comparisons with Warhammer world? (I haven't been to the EotS yet.)
Thanks!
PeteW

Gogo GW, huh?
I hear EoTS is a good venue, I'm sure we'd do well again on numbers.
I'm ready to defend the Stunty Cup!

I've played some games upstairs at Maelstrom and it's a great venue with many, many tables. Not quite the size of Warhammer World, iirc, but definitely worth it. Plus the Maelstrom guys are decent chaps (their first question when you come in isn't to the tune of "So, how many hundreds of pounds worth of Space Marines are you going to buy today?", for instance)
It's easy to find off the A38 (like, ridiculously easy), and no slogging your way through the middle of Nottingham's most congested roads, either

Although we nearly drove past it (
) , Maelstrom games is a quality venue with good facilities and friendly staff. We had an elfball tourney there recently, and I would highly recommend using it for White Isle two Pete.

I attended the Maelstrom Cup and they ran a great event. I’ll be back at the WISB regardless, what tier 1 team you taking this year pete?

It's true that you can't really see their banner from one side of the road, but 'last one on the left before the crossroads' ain't too difficult to follow - you just have to know it first!mattwhile wrote:Although we nearly drove past it ()

Oh I haven't decided quite how to break my own rules yet - in fact, I have no more than vague thoughts and interesting ideas that I haven;t seen in other tournies. I have a friend painting some rats for me, so I might make some rules so that I can subtly powergame into loopholes that no-one else can even imagine!Jimjimjimany wrote:I attended the Maelstrom Cup and they ran a great event. I also attended a BB tourney at tEotS, and it is a fine venue. More than up to the job - it's almost a mini GWHQ, with hall, bar and food (if those bits are up and running now, still being built when we were there).

I'd be up for it (assuming the family don't arrange something instead like last year
)
