Why play tournaments?
So why go to a tournament? It's expensive, and means a weekend away from your loved ones. Choose as many options as you like, comment as you like. Which is your most important reason for going?
And can we take "to have fun!" as read, please?
Mike
PS A sort of side question is "why play stunties at a tournament?", but we'll leave that for another day.

I have no loved ones and I don't paint. But all the other reasons. But I would like to point out that your assumption that everyone goes to have fun is erroneous.

Re: Why play tournaments?
I go to meet people I've been chatting to all year online.
I go to see how many of my opponents players I can smash into the CAS box (though not anymore, I've proved my point ).
I go to enjoy Blood Bowl away from my usual league opponents and learn how to better my playstyle.

Re: Why play tournaments?
It is part the competition of playing against other players that challenge you. Winning against good opponents is always satisfying. Meeting friends you don't see often ist also important. And you get to play many games of BB in a short time frame.

They are not friends. They are subordinates.

..I go to vent my pent up insanity on people.....
...Friends and a chance to avoid Glowworm, and humiliate Shaniepoo and others...although that usually backfires!....
...try to see if there's not a tourni I'll go to without taking Halflings!

Re: Why play tournaments?
certainly not to win things in my case!
...to avoid PUG whilst being in the same room as him is always a challenge
To get better at the game, I learn from ever game i play, new team builds, new statagies (Khemri master chef anyone?) check out some truely beautiful teams and individual figures and come away with new ideas of how to spend the housekeeping!!
Also, its an escape, I love my job but when im away its like an alter ego (still old fat and balding) who's part of a great community.

Re: Why play tournaments?
Maybe you should add, 'Just getting a chance to play TT BB!'
The TT scene has completely dried up over in Norn Iron at the mo, and digital BB is just never as fun.

Re: Why play tournaments?
Loads of tournaments in and around Manchester. Someone came to Waterbowl from Denmark this year, you must be closer than that?
