Timetable for a 24h event
I am thinking about running a 24h event and there was some interesting question about the time table so I am going to ask the community.
When would you like to start a 24h event?
It would be nice if you comment on your choice to start a debate.
Starting early gives the advantage that you are awake for 30 hours and you can go to sleep. The disadvantage is that you arrive on a strange time on sunday to go to sleep.
Starting late gives the advantage that you can spend the saturday with wife and kids and that you can go to sleep when you arrive on sunday. The disadvantage is that you are awake for a verry long time.
This could be interesting debate for all you 24h event runners.

10 am on saturday, so the participant can use their sunday to rest/go back home safely.

Saturday morning.
I would have no issues with rocking up to the venue in the morning and playing until Sunday morning, then drive home and sleep. But if I started Saturday evening, after a full day of whatever, I might not make it through to sunday evening.

TOs! You do not need multiple copies of rosters. It's a waste of paper.

Re: Timetable for a 24h event
I'd prefer starting around 20.00h on a Friday or Saturday, since it fits the best with family and little kids.
This way you go home, sleep on normal hours and join the Sunday activities as usual.
The problem with starting at 10.00h in the morning is twofold. You have to try and sleep during the day (Sunday 11.00 - 12.00) but not too long, otherwise you can't sleep at night again. And you lose another day in your weekend. When you got little kids, it's not such an easy thing to do.
Another thing to point out, is that when you start at 20.00h the hardest part (deep iin the night) comes early. I remember of my last 2 appearances on 24h tournaments, that around 05.00h I got my major dip. This is due to the lack of sleep (obviously) but also because you already played 19hours and are so hungry for breakfast. With different starting hours, your dip will be around the afternoon, where the hot food will help you carry on!

Of course it could be arranged to have hot food supplied around 3-4 in the morning.LuintoST wrote:... but also because you already played 19hours and are so hungry for breakfast. With different starting hours, your dip will be around the afternoon, where the hot food will help you carry on!

At the Italian 24 hours the start grilling at 6 pm (games begin at 1 p.m.).
And they DON'T STOP until the end of the tourney.
