How about modifiers, depending on how well (and thus how much attention) the Secret Weapon did?
-1 for each CAS that drive
-2 for a touchdown that drive
-1 per foul that drive
Thus a Pogoer may get sent off if he manages to score, but if he doesn't he'll get another try next drive (since that's what they are designed for, really).

Or roll a d6 for each sent off weapon at the beginning of each drive. On a 6 the player is allowed to return.
That might motivate weapon heavy teams to score more, instead of just stall stall stall to avoid having their weapons sent off.
If this is problematic on any particular teams (dwarf deathroller cough) the roll could always be courtesy of a special coaching staff.
