DP Bad Reputation

Post by Amon242 »

Is there a need for system that provides more penalties than just missing the rest of the match for habitual proners? Should we keep track of the amount of times a player is sent off the pitch for proning, and incrementally punishes them for getting caught? For example, they may start to get a bad reputation, and to appease the fans the ruling body levies stricter and stricter sanctions against the player, finally throwing them out of the league. The player who is caught would still be ejected from the game, and once they start compiling more ejections, there would be additional penalties. Please remember it only punishes them for getting caught, not for proning. I've brainstormed on a few below. Please feel free to add tweaks or criticisms.

1-2 Ejections - No Effect
3 Ejections - Miss Next Match
4 Ejections - Miss Next Match + Automatically Hit by any Throw A Rock
5 Ejections - Same as 4 + Injured in Pitch Invasion (in addition to amount rolled)
6 Ejections - Same as 5 + Role 1d6 before every match, on '6' not allowed to play
7 Ejections - Player is banned from the league.

If this was the rule I would want all the normal benefits applied to the foul armour roll. If my player has a chance of being banned I want him to be able to get something out of the foul. I'd say remove IGMEOY, add SPP's for fouling, and add stackable modifiers. Otherwise your system would virtually remove fouling from the game.

Bah.

In my league, we've talked about rules like that to reduce the amount of player destruction that seems to occur, but we keep coming back to the same conclusion - this game is called BLOOD BOWL. It's not meant to be pretty. Destroying the other team in casualties is many times more important than destroying them in score.

In fact, we've considered adding rules that penalize teams that commit a foul and fail to knock players out of the game, while giving players who have caused serious injuries/deaths on blocks AND fouls bonuses after the game. Obviously this would balance the game heavily in favor of tougher teams, so we decided against it, but it was still an interesting thought.

Why else would Orcs want to play the game?

The BB fans I've read about in the fluff would lynch any official that tried to bring these rules into a game.

It's BLOODbowl.

It doesn't punish you for proning, it only punishes you for getting caught.

I'm with Darkson...besides who wants to have EVEN MORE crap to keep track of?

You've already taken spp's from fouling, you've already made it +2 to arm OR inj, you've already added igmeoy. Haven't we DONE ENOUGH about fouling yet?

(For the record I am in favor of 2 of the above 3 rules...I still think we should have spp's for fouling...I'll get on my soapbox on that one in another post)

I'm with Wesleytj on SPP's for fouling, and when I find his soapbox...er...post about it I will add my support.

Quck and Simple House Rule:

A fouler who gets caught catches a 1 match ban. When they are sent off add "MNG" to their injury column.

I appreciate the feedback, its good to have people help out on ideas that may not have been well thought out.

Seems people in the general public are more pro-fouling than we are in the league I play in. Of course after you play with the same people for a long time (7+ years) a common courtesy develops where proning doesn't get out of hand. I would like to see the arguments for SPP for proning, as I really don't have a solid stance on that one yet.

Hi Amon,
well, in my league we're not too fond of fouling either.
Or, to be more precise, we're not too fond of the DP rules.

In my league, we've changed DP to +2/+1, and it is still a powerful skill.

If you want a solution more along the lines of DP's having a "bad reputation", why not simply add +1 to the IGMEOY roll when the foul is made by a DP.
That will mean that there will be times when it might actually be better to foul with a normal player than with a DP (to avoid the "spot") -and that's a good thing, IMO.
