Teams with all races mixed

Post by Fronko »

HI Folks!

I don't know if anyone ever proposed something like this. I did a search on it and nothing much really showed up.

I think of the option to mix all races in one team. This probably wouldn't be balanced in a league with standard teams, so it is only for a fun league with mixed teams all over the place.

I figured it out to be like this:

First, every available player is put into one of the following positions:
Blitzer, Thrower, Catcher, Blocker, Lineman
Blitzers, Throwers and Catchers should be obvious, Blocker is everything ST4+ (BOBs, Mummies, Chaos Warriors and Troll Slayers) and Linemen is what remains.

Then, except for the linemen, you can choose two players of each position, with one position having four players. That means, if you want four blockers, you can only have two blitzers, Throwers and Catchers. If you rather choose to have four catchers, then it's two blockers, blitzers and throwers only.

The choice, which race's player you choose for any position is free.

So a roster might look like:

Blitzers:
1 Wardancer
1 Wight

Throwers:
1 Dark Elf Thrower
1 Skaven Thrower

Catchers:
2 Wood Elf Catchers
1 gutter Runner
1 HUman Catcher

Blockers:
2 BOBs

Linemen:
2 Long Beards
2 Human Linemen

Of course you would have to stick to that 1.000.000 crown limit (which this team probably does not, but it is just an example)

I believe that would be a lot of fun to play, though some positions probably will be the same all the time (only elven throwers for example).

What do you uys think about it?

Hhhm. I don't think my opinion is of much help bc. I reject the idea of mixed teams (I know constructive criticism is best :) ).
As for house rules, I still dislike the idea bc. everyone will build his/her dream team and at the end everyone has the same/very similar team and you'll have the same fun as when both of you just field nothing else than Human linemen.

Oops, I think you actually haven't asked for this, but I don't think this mixed team would be much fun. Sorry.

If you seriously wanted to do such a team, my best recommendation would be to modify and create a Mongrel Horde league.

The rules for the Mongrel Horde team can be found at:
http://www.midgardbb.com/MBBLTeams/MongrelHorde.html

From there you just need to create your own rookie table for the players.

Now that would be fun as every game the coach would have to redo strategies to handle what he has for that match. Entire teams made up of only the most broken players on a permantent basis ... no thanks.

Well, I see the point in broken teams ... though every team will be more or less broken equally

That mongrel thing seems to be a lot of fun though. Maybe will try this sooner or later...

Well, you should at least differentiate between Chaos and Order, don't you think? Would Elves allying with Undead? Orcs side by side with Dwarves? Better arrange a Chaos-Order-All-Star-Game once a season!

I was thinking of something similar with an NFL style draft.

Throw 50 or so players of various races into the pool. Let each of the 4 coaches pick one in rotating order (scale up as needed). They can still only FIELD a roster of 16, but they can hire that roster from the players they have drafted. I was also thinking along the lines of 2-4 blitzers, 2-4 blockers, 2-4 catchers, and 2 passers max. Maybe just a max of 8 positional players and 8 linemen.... not sure.

Then, if you wanted to make things really interesting, maybe come up with a ton of labyrinthine rules on who won't play with who just to make the coaches heads hurt. The problem here? Someone gets clever in the draft and gets a devastating team and the season's pretty much shot.

Still, I thought it might be fun.

The Pacific Blood Bowl League used to have all star matches at the end of each season. Players were picked based on SPPs and, more importantly, interesting and unconventional skill slots. Commishes picked players in alternating order until they had a roster of 16 each, then two coaches played the teams off against each other.

Great fun if you've got a reasonably sized league - It'd also be fun to have the 2 lowest placed coaches in your league play the teams.

That just seems like mean-spirited taunting. Although, it would mean I'd get at least one game in with some skilled players...

To play this way eliminates the balance created within a roster. You can simply get all of the 'good' choices from each list. Is was like under the gold edition rules where you had dwarf teams that had elf throwers and human catchers. It simply addressed the weakness of the dwarfs, speed and agility.
I think this would work in a kind of Pro-Bowl type game where you make up a 'dream team' type roster.

Exactly the idea. I don't think the idea was really being considered for proper balance and fairness, rather just for fun.
Although, as I mentioned above, you could use the draft idea and use almost nothing but linemen. Everyone would get 1 or 2 positional players and have to fill in the rest with linemen. Kind of a politically correct Pub League... or would that just be a Cafe League?
