Bad kick was a terrible result, high kick is clearly a big improvement. As for the realism stuff, I'm not too bothered as I think theres far worse realism problems, rename it "lucky catch" or something like that and consider it as the defence having read the kick accurately if it makes you feel any better.

Remember that kick is still used, the ball will still be displaced such that its roughly in the corner of the pitch you chose. Bad kick on the other hand would completely nullify the kick skill if it went off for touchback.

Bad Kick was average-bad, and High Kick is horrible.
