New Handicap System cards

This is an idea thats been knocking around for a while.

My question is how many people would like to see Fanatic bring out new, updated handicap cards similar to the old special play cards (but massivly toned down to the level of the new handicap table) as an alternative to the handicap system printed in the LRB?

It has been suggested that these could be produced cheeply in a 52 card, playing card format that could be sold in shops or ordered from mail order.

I know there have been a lot of similar polls on this topic but non (to my knowledge at least and I apologise if I am wrong) specificly about making new cards but more about who liked/uses the old ones.

I like the old cards a lot, however they added too much variance to games for me to use them in league play. They took some of the predictability out of the game which wreaks havoc with people's strategies.

I love playing with the cards in one off games, but I just don't think we need to have them redone.

As far as printing cards for the current handicap table, why when the table works fine. This would add more complexity to something that already works pretty well.

I think most people would agree that they liked the unpredictabilty & supprize that is only possible with cards but hated how much of an impact they had on the game.

I wasnt suggesting simply printing the current handicap table directly onto cards or reprinting the old ones but rather something of a mixture. Newly written, less powerful cards that would hopefully satisfy both the 'put the fun back into bloodbowl' camp and the 'I want to win or lose through skill not the draw of a card' camp. I would suggest that they would only be used for handicaping in place of the current table for people who have them. The cards should have no more impact than the book's handicap table of coarce or else people will 'forget their cards' ( ) or other deviouse tacktics but I wouldnty mind if the handicap system was a bit stronger myself.

I imagine if such a system were ever to come into effect each league would decide whether it would use cards or the printed system.

GW have stated that they will never reintroduce any kind of card system because of the overheads involved in producing them. In fact, Jervis has said that he wants to devise a system where teams can play each other fairly without any kind of handicap at all. We'll have to wait until the Playtest Vault is opened to see exactly what this entails...

I voted no. We use the old cards in our league, but I'd prefer we didn't. I think the old cards were to extreme when your opponent could play cards that made you loose all your money or never be able to earn more SPPs on a player.
It's funny when you get good cards, as I did in my last match. I could give MVP to one of my players before the match, and after the match I bought a wardancer at half price. But I don't really like the assymetric information you get into the game when you use cards. I think it's more fun and just when both players have access to the same information.

Yes. Ok. I know!

Im not talking about the old cards. Everyone knows they were very unbalancing. This tread is about who would, or wouldnt, like to see *new* sensible cards to aid balance through the handicap system.

I thought I'd made that quite explicit.

Personally, I don't want the cards back in any form.
And it looks like I'm getting my wish :D

Power aside, I like the fact that both coaches know the handicap, and can play accordingly. I did not like what happened when you really had to defend against 40 different effects at the same time, just to be sure.

Cheers
Martin

Yes you had :) , it was only an example. Cards may be funny, but I think it's more fun whitout cards, even if they're more balanced. I don't like that you can hide some information from your opponent, as you do when you use cards. It's better with a table, when both coaches can see immediately which handicaps a team gets.

I think this is the heart of where the divide is. I don't care if cards are back as the old ones or new, handicap or just for fun but its the hidden nature I am interested in. Biggest beef with the current handicap table is its too weak and totally open, so sometimes the results are basically irrelevent and done with without even being able to bluff.
