New Handicap Table Proposal

The proposed new handicap system uses the old handicaps but give the team with lesser TR more influence over which handicaps they want. One of the flaws of the old system was you could get 4 handicaps that were all sh-tty or 2 handicaps that were incredible.

The over-all effect with this table is you will probably choose to get fewer handicaps than before but they will be ones that you really want.

How does it work : Calculate the diff in the 2 TRs. The lower TR gets 1 handicap point for every difference in TR which he can apply, at his discretion, to any of the 3 tables below. Based on the TR difference the coach can either choose to have a handicap rolled randomly on a table OR actually PICK a handicap on the table

EXAMPLE : Team A = TR 162 Team B = TR 109 Diff = 53 points

Coach B can
1) Roll a random handicap on tables #1 and #3 (cost = 52 points)
2) PICK a handicap on table #1 and roll a random handicap on tables #1 and #3 (cost = 53 points)
3) PICK a handicap on table #2 and roll a random handicap on table #1(cost = 53 points)
4) ANY other combination that gets you to <=53 handicap points

I feel this solution helps out the lower TR teams without changing the current rule set too much. Or course, which handicaps belong in which table is up for discussion, as well as how many points the rolls should cost. But the basic concept is what I'm shooting for.

You can sort of incorporate some of the sweetners into this package.

For example : Table #2 has handicap #45 THAT BOY’S GOT TALENT. This is basically a freebooter.

You could easily replace one of the handicaps on table #3 with soemthing like. YOUR TEAM HAS STAR APPEAL - In your last match a STAR watched your team and admired your spunky spirit. Add an appropriate STAR for your race to your roster for this game only.

This suggestion is to get Galak or JJ to take a peak at this proposal.

There has been already a three-tier HC table from Milo, and our league uses an enhanced version and it has proved to work very well.

it's here:
http://people.freenet.de/optokoax/new_h ... evised.htm

So you're idea is not new. Nevertheless I'm a fan of three-step Handicap tables, regardless if it's yours or mine (or another one).

I guess nobody has replied to your post bc. it's obvious by the recent vault releases that there won't be any sort of handicap table in BB anymore... :-?

Yup to bad for you, but they have changed it ( in a bad way  )

Only bad for me alone? 8)

Seriously, our league is playing vanilla LRB 3.0 except our handicap table, we won't have a problem keeping it if the new rules don't suit our taste...

The whole handicap idea is dysfunctional.

Fortunately they will be replaced by inducements.

The proposed tables still contain all that crap many coaches never want to see again.

Sorry, I prefer a dysfunctional handicap table full of crap every day rather than forcing underdogs to field a second Big Guy, a Star Player and a handful mercenaries every game.

Go your route, I go mine...

I realize you were venting here Narkotic ... but the Vault rules don't allow you have have a 2nd Big Guy. It still a work in progress ... I'd just like to keep the disinformation factor low

The Inducements system is fine, and getting better. I don't think that this is the main source of frustration anymore...

Certainly not for me. But the injury stuff is turning me off the whole process.

JJ's latest D66 CAS table brought back Siguard's ... I told you he was listening. Now just make sure he adds that rule to V1.4.

I'm a lot happier about that :D

Like you say I just hope he adds it into 1.4 so I know it'll be there, that sentance at the bottom saying he prefers 1.3 worried me a little. Still it's got a lot of positive support so hopefully he'll be swayed.
