A Licid Team

Post by Dragonman »

This new team idea has been brewing in my head for a while and I was wondering what other people would think of it. A Licid team.

Licids are a type of parasite/ symbiotic animal that attach themselves to other creatures in order to survive usually giving the creature a skill gift in return.
The background idea is that licid queens who spawn these licids need to learn quickly or die with no young, and where better than the blood bowl field as it goes by the same rules. The team needs a queen on the team or the linesmen will leave after 1 match without one unless one is bought at the end of that game. They will leave because they believe they will not get the benefit of a gift. If there is no queen that should be the next thing bought. The guard were linesmen, who were given special licids that make them slower, stronger, tougher and less agile and cannot get any more licids attached to them.

Now my initial idea for team looks a bit like this.

Linesmen/hosts 0-12 - 6,3,3,7 - 50k ––general access
Licid guard 0-4 - 4,4,2,9 – 80k –strength, general access
Licid queen 1-2 – 4,3,3,8 - 70k –general, strength, passing, agility access
(Racial characteristics for queen- short life, offspring)
rerolls 60k

Short life – this player ages extremely quickly but learns things quicker in that shorter time. They get a –3 modifier on the ageing table roll, and if they are every seriously injured they are considered dead.
The bonus is at the end of every game they automatically gain 5 spp.

Offspring- when a queen player dies all her skills and traits (stat increases do not count) translate to baby licids. These licids can be attached to a lineman at the cost of 10k granting the benefit of that skill or trait to the lineman. The linesman can only have a maximum of two licids living on him at a time (more and the player would simply not be able to sustain the licids and die) and becomes a host.
A linesman turns into a host once the a licid has been joined with him

That’s the main team but I thought of a big guy and wizard/ spell caster as well:-

Licid Cannibals are mutants of their kind instead of needing a host to live on and granting it a skill. It can take skill instead when it eats dead players.

Licid cannibal - 5,5,2,7- 120k- general, strength access - traits/skill (mighty blow, wild animal, regen, and feast

Feast- If this player ever kills any player on the field (that was not saved by an apothecary or regen roll then he misses the rest of the half whilst he feasts on his victim. Also roll a d6 on a roll of
1-3 – it’s a nice meal and nothing else
4- the cannibal eats and gains one skill or trait the dead player had
5- the cannibal eats and gains two skills or traits the dead player had
6- the cannibal eats and gains three skills or traits the dead player had

Spell caster licid ability: - the licids all gain a physic link with each other until the end of turn and all players with a licid gains the pro skill till end of turn. (That’s all players that are not linesmen) succeeds on a 3+

That’s all of what I’ve come up with, I used the team maker to adjust the team already but as I’ve added some extra-unknown traits I wasn’t sure how to cost them I think I’ve got it about right. I’ve also been looking for models online that I could use for these but as of yet nothing quite fits the bill.

If anyone can tell me what they think of this idea or where I could get models that sound like this I’d be grateful.

Well it is interesting I'll take a better look when I have time,
I dont think it would appeal to me,
I like the hand off of skills, reminds me of aliens or something, or is it star gate, or perhaps the Tyranid side :-?

I was thinking that it seemed a bit like star gate or tyranids at the time i was making the team, but the licids themsleves were in magic the gathering cards, but i guess all of the above influenced me when making the team up, and i was looking into star gate models as posible figures.

The queen would take to the field because she needs to learn by experience to give her offspring a better chance of survival. It is sort of teaching the baby licids by being on th field.
Alturnativaly there could be a mean licid king (coach) who thinks this and so sends them out anyway. This would even explain why there is more than one queen as the king would have his pick, like haing a harem of women in desert tribes.
