Alternative Human Roster

Code: Select all

0-2 Blitzers 7 3 3 8 Block Gen, Str 90k
0-4 Blockers 5 3 2 9 Block Gen, Str 80k
0-2 Throwers 6 3 3 8 Sure Hands, Pass Gen, Pas 70k
0-4 Catchers 8 2 3 7 Catch, Dodge Gen, Agi 70k
0-16 Linemen 6 3 3 8 Gen 50k

RR: 50k
Reasoning:

1) Humans are strong to begin with but rather weak in the long run:

By removing 2 blitzers and adding 4 blockers (complimentary to the BOBs of orc-teams), humans might be less dominating at lower TR while remaining competitive at higher TR. This was the major reason for posting this roster in the first place.

2) 2 Blitzers policy:

As blitzers are the flashy stars of a team, it might have much more character if teams wouldn't get more than two of them.

3) Human Big Guy policy:

The inflationary use of big guys in Blood Bowl isn't supported by the Warhammer fluff at all. Brutish ogres just don't roam through the Empire, not to speak of Bretonnia or other civilized countries. Apart form that, big guys are rather one-dimensional in general.

4) BOBs vs human blockers:

The human blockers here cost 80k, just like the Black Orc Blockers. To compensate for the lack of sheer strength, these blockers would get Block as starting skill and MA+1 (to reflect mankind's higher mobility).

Voted other, as I don't think there's a prblem with humies at various TR ranges.

I'd say no because I like the humies at the mo. A versitile, all rounder team, but the blockers seem to make this roster a little too much like the Orcs to me. Nice idea, maybe for an alternative human team?

I voted undecided/other, as whilst I am interested in Human Blockers, the current Human team is as close to perfect as it gets.

I have always thought that rather than that f*cking awful Knights & Squires list, the Bretonnian roster should be a slightly different take on the Human roster. Something like:

Code: Select all

0-16 Linemen 6 3 3 7 Gen 40k
0-2 Throwers 6 3 3 7 Sure Hands, Pass Gen, Pas 70k
0-2 Catchers 8 2 3 7 Catch, Dodge Gen, Agi 70k
0-4 Blockers 5 3 3 8 Guard, Wrestle Gen, Str 80k
0-4 Blitzers 7 3 3 8 Block Gen, Agi 90k

RR: 50k
Note that the Blitzers have Agility access instead of Strength. This is my way of representing the knightly disposition on the field ... i.e. being "fancy dans".

The Blockers are quite different from the ones you posted. If you look at the Human roster, everything they do well comes from skills rather than characteristics. This is why I feel the should be technical (rather than muscular) blockers, and why no Human should start with AV9.

Naz, I'd either drop the catchers, or make Blitzers 0-2 in your list. As it stands I'd say it has a (slight) advantage over the current humans roster.

Yep, you may be right. Or the Blockers to be 0-2.

Sorry to have arrived at this late. This is almost exactly what I'd like to see the Human list be: lack of AV 9 Blockers (still don't know why they had that position removed …) is, for me, what stops Humans from being genuine all-rounders who can play any style whatsoever.

Only things I'm not sure about: the team could retain the Ogre option, imo; and, perhaps not Block skill on Blockers? It's a little odd (given the name), but there are a few Blockers on other teams who don't start with Block skill, and these guys having them could be argued to make them too strong (especially as a starting team). Whenever I've pondered a (very similar) alternate list, I've ended up leaning towards Wrestle on the Blockers (for 70K).

Then again, I would re-design <i>every</i> list so that they only had two Blitzers (almost every dislike I have of the existing lists is related to a team with 0-4 Blitzers), so I come from an entrenched position on this point …

I can see why you would want to add in human blockers, but in my experience the human team is very well balanced and doesn't need blockers. As they develop either linemen or blitzers develop into blockers, but early on there is no established blockers on the team (except the big guy). But if you wanted to change to have blitzers early on then i'd reccomend either 5/3/2/8 or 5/3/3/8 with block. Guard is way too powerful to have as a starting skill, particulrly on 4 players. Wrestle is also the wrong skill for blockers. They are there to smash opponents out of the way and hurt them. Wrestle is a great skill for players who need to take any player down for tactical reasons and is great defensively too, but not really 1st skill for a blocker.

No, I agree that they don't need Blockers, but the lack of an AV 9 player (ie a Blocker), stops Humans from being true jacks-of-all-trades. Without AV 9 players, they can't really be developed into a proper bashing team (because the team can fall apart at the drop of a hat).

The fact that Wrestle is not optimal on these Blockers is exactly why I think they should have it. :) (Also, if the Blockers didn't have AV 9, there'd be no point in adding them.)

Why not let the blockers have Mighty Blow instead of block/wrestle? They may not have the brute strength of BOBs, but might know a little better to hit where it hurts.

i wouldn't give humans AV9 players. They are jack of all trades but master of none. AV9 would imply they could become a bashing only side.

A new skill in the PBBL rules.
