Weather table in Tourneys and normal games - Sweltering Heat

Post by Teluriel »

This suggestion has been posted several times allready i would think: but here's my idea...

The sweltering heat weather result can have a big big impact on a tournament play if you get unlucky (it can even be worse the a pitch invasion), so this is my suggestion:

- After a player has done a 'going for it' and is still left standing; roll a d6; on a 1 the player is exhausted due to heat and falls over (no armour roll), but does create a turnover...

That's just a less impactful version of blizzard (3+ is more difficult than two 2+s), without the passing restriction.

To be consistent with all other rules where the player is placed on the ground without armour roll (i.e. not knocked over), this should not be a turnover unless the player was holding the ball.

Or accept it as part of the rich tapestry of statistical variance (some may know it as "luck" ;-) ) that is Bloodbowl. Chin up and get on with it. Sometimes it will work in your favour, sometimes it won't and sometimes it won't matter either way.

And if it happens to you then at least you have a reasonable excuse for losing, or and even bigger story for winning/drawing. :D

OK, if he rolls a one he's just removed to the reserve box:

Look all weather table results can be taken into account when you actually play: sweltering heat has nothing to do with it. It's just luck...

Picture this: world cup, last match, weather table: sweltering heat. At the second half one coach gets lucky (because that's just what it is) and sends off five opponents resulting in a failure....

Now this is:
- a major letdown for anyone, Luck is an important way in BB, but you can always take into account several things, ie. you determine whether or not (with the weather table) you take risks...sweltering heat takes that all away...

Lets take a look at the extreme results (i know they aren't, but that's how it's shown or at least grown throughout the years):

- pitch invasion: you're guys stay on the pitch
- blizzard: you're guys stay on the pitch and you get to determine the level of risk
- Riot: everyone stays on
- Sweltering heat: you or you're opponents players get send off: that's it...no calculation of risk, etc etc.

I think it should be changed: to this rule...

On every going for it roll: you roll an extra die: on a "1" you're player collapses of heat and is removed to the reserve box, this counts as a Failed going for it, resulting in a turnover...still the capability of sending the players off the field, but the coach determines the level of risk involved; which is in my opinion MUCH better...

The risk for being sent off, is a lot higher this way, but it gets calculateable. I like this idea.
