Dwarven Ogres

Post by Colin »

OK, I just recently purchased a 1ed ogre (looks really cool) and found he was quite small compared to 3ed BB and normal WH ogres. I am also under the impression that the 2ed ones are also smaller that the current ogres. I decided to paint this guy up in the team colours of my dwarf team and use him with them. According to other threads, many people (including me) don't think that ogres belong on dwarf teams. Since the older style ogres are smaller, I say why not say these are dwarven ogres (dwarf ogres?), a special breed that are used by dwarfs in the mines to help clear away big rocks, etc. They would be rare, so only one allowed on a team. Because they are smaller and more squat than regular ogres, they would have different stats.

Dwarven ogre MA5 ST4 AG1 AV9 Mighty Blow, Thick Skull, Bonehead. 90K
ST and Gen skills. No Big Guy trait, so can use team RR (usually works closely with dwarves anyway, part of team list so not an ally).

Some people might say that this would make Dwarfs too powerful, but as they can get a regular ogre according to current rules, I don't think so.

I think I know what ogre that was...

It's good to know that he ended up in a good (=Dwarf) team after all. That's what I would have used him for too. :D

Actually, I do not mind Dwarves having an Ogre from technical rules view of point. They are a pounding team, and I do not care if there is one more pounding guy at their side. I am more afraid of all those Block-Linemen.

I have a problem due to Dwarven fluff (maybe you as the Grand Heretic of Nuffle Blasphemer's Association won't understand that  ). No washed and bearded Dwarf would side with those "Bigish Human Types".
I would like to see the Ogre removed, and a death roller added to the roster, maybe not as secret weapon but with the negatrait of going uncontrolled or exploding etc.

BTW: how do Dwarfs and Ogres communicate. Dwarvish? Grunting? or does the Ogre gets kicked into direction? :D

why not the simple counts as.
Redfang has just converted burlok as a blood bowl player, if he's counted as an ogre, no problem!

I guess you guys missed the point, I was not trying to dredge up the whole, should ogres be allowed on dwarf teams, debate, I was just saying that since the older edition ogres are much smaller and squat looking than the current ogres, why not make a special type of ogre, called a dwarf ogre, which playes only for dwarfs. If you re-read my original post, you will see some attempt at providing some fluff for this.

Ok, I've re-read your origianl post: 8)
Why you bother of the size? Maybe it's a valid point to adjust the rules to the minis, but as you already pointed out 1st and 2nd ed. Ogres are much smaller than later editions (they are larga as a BOB aprox.). But then, most of the older BB minis are smaller, Dwarves, Chaos Dwarves etc. I know it looks silly, that's why I do not mix 2nd and 3rd ed. minis in my teams.
Back to your point, introducing smaller Ogres, so that they fit the actual size, just brings more fuzz without any real playing gain. I don't think we need sub-classes of races just to match mini-sizes. Keep it simple, one Ogre for all is fine IMHO.
But play as you like and if you feel uncomfortable playing with a small sized normal Ogre, play with small Ogre rules. GW/BB minis are not to meant to be coherent and we shoukldn't go the way to adjust the rules to the minis (as they doing at fanatic these days)

From the rulespoint of view, I think your proposal goes the way to exchange your big guy with a stronger, hard hitting Blitzer.
