Musings of the Halfling variety (or lack thereof...)

Ok, here's a post to discuss possible new types of players to add to a Halfling roster. I am playing a Halfling team at the moment in my league and I find that having 14 players that are all exactly the same a tad boring. What I would like to see is a little variety on the roster, and I thought it would fun to discuss this here. I'm not looking to add any uber players, just fun and varied players which could add a little something fresh to the team.
WARNING: People who have nothing to say besides "Halflings are fine, leave them be" or "Halflings are meant to be useless" or equivalent, please refrain from replying. This topic is meant for those who'd like to add a little spice to the 'flings. Thank you.
Here's some ideas I've had:
Code: Select all
# Position Cost MA ST AG AV Skills
0-2 Halfling Talltalker 80k 4 2 3 7 Dauntless, Thick Skull, Stunty, Right Stuff (Ag)
0-2 Halfling Runner 60k 6 2 3 5 Sprint, Dodge, Stunty, Right Stuff (Agility)
0-2 Halfling Proudfoot 60k 5 2 3 6 Stand Firm, Dodge, Stunty (Agility)
The idea is to give the Halflings something they couldn't normally get, but without making them too good. I find the players above a good mix of that. Now whether or not they would unbalance the team is up for debate, but I think they are ok.
Comments and suggestions are welcome.

I think you and Galak should get married.

I'll never understand you continuing to suggest that I want to improve the Halfling team .... I'm one of the people that Balrog says cannot post on the thread.

I don't mind the Runner or Proudfoot, but the Talltalker.... no thanks.
How about the Half-Halfling
0-2 5/3/2/7 Dodge, Stunty G/A 50k

It was a joke Galak!
Lighten up!
I don't think you are trying to improve the flings. I think some ppl are just too into flings.

Well, if you want my opinion, I think these are the two position types I'd suggest:
Code: Select all
Qty Title Cost MA ST AG AV Skills/Traits
0-2 Halfling Berserker 100,000 5 2 3 7 Dauntless, Frenzy, Stunty, Right Stuff, Wild Animal (AG)
0-2 Halfling Thrower 90,000 5 2 3 6 Dodge, Strong Arm, Stunty, Right Stuff (AG, PS)
The Halfling Berserker is a Halfling who has been starving for eight hours, and so gets so ravenously hungry that he'll crush anything on his front to get some food (which happens to be placed in the End Zone).
The Halfling throwers are strong enough to throw the thing just as if they were regular players (i.e. Strong Arm cancels out the throwing penalty for Stunty; they can throw long bombs, but they'll be long bombs).

I agree with giving halflings acess to dauntless again by moving dauntless to a general trait or something. But them starting with it I don't like at all and would make them more competitive then I would like to see them.

It
IS a general trait

, which is why they don't have access to it.

If you change Dauntless so Halflings can get it then just make sure Skinks can't.

Ahh yes I am so stupid.
I don't know what to do with it then. But I always liked the fact that Goblins and Halflings could get dauntless. Wish they still could. They make fun players to have on your team even if they do have a big bullseye on their head.

I would be happy with an addition of a thrower position, but not as elaborate as the one posted before, maybe something like this,
Hafling Muffin-Slinger (self explanitory)
5 2 3 6 Stunty, Pass, Right Stuff, (no Dodge skill, Throwers are less mobile) 60k (AG,PS) giving them strong arm as a starting skill would not be a reasonable decision. As haflings are not known for anything strong!
Blitzer would be a stretch, maybe something like this...
Hafling Pop-Guzzler (Caffeine makes him faster)
6 (2*) 3 6 Block, Stunty, Right Stuff (again no dodge skill,)70k (AG,General)
*Roll a die before a Blitz or Block action, on a roll of 5-6 the Guzzler is having delusions of grandeur, Treat him as having an extra point of strength.

If you want more positions for 'flings, why not just bring back the halfling catcher from 2ed? Basically just give a regular 'fling +1MA and catch (not sure what the cost would be). I don't think this would be too much of a power up for the 'flings as they have no throwers, but gives you the option of developing a passing game if you are able to roll some doubles for skill increases. Remember, the 'fling passing game would still kinda suck because of the extra rang band penalty.

Catchers arent that important as anyone can catch, throwing the ball on a hafling team would be essential, making sure that the ball gets upfield is more important to a hafling team than catching it, ie id rather lose a turn with the ball 7 squares away from my opponents end zone than fumbling a pass 7 squares away from mine

should probably be about 60k. He's a skink with catch instead of 1MA.

It seems to me that a Halfling who costs more than 50k just misses the point. Also, perhaps the passing game can be ahem improved without adding passing skills (exactly).
0-4 Fling (actual name of the position)
5 2 3 8 Right Stuff, Pro, Stunty 50k
