Re: VuK and Son
ok, so we reached half time in the Undead/Halfling clash before bed time... we'll pick it up tomorrow
The Midnight Blues have a 1-0 lead over the Shires revenge and casualties are 1 apiece
he was not impressed with the Halfling Chef taking all his 3 re-rolls but he is totally in the zone with blocking/blitzing to knock down short players.
I managed to crowd surf a Wight and he was lucky not to lose another.
both my trees have rooted at the first opportunity they have and are unmoved... driftwood would be better.
he knows I have a wizard for the 2nd half and is keen to see what he will do.
I have no reserves for the 2nd half but have saved my Apoth for the Trees.

Re: VuK and Son
it finished 1-1 and 2-2 on casualties.
his Mummy became the first player to reach 2 skills and took guard when the double was not forthcoming
I broke the neck of a ghoul and he cut him and rebought a new one
he SI'd 2 halflings and I cut and re-bought both
next up his Skaven in 2 games against the High Elves and Dark Elves

Re: VuK and Son
ok, so the first half is completed for the meeting of the Shakespeare's shifters (The Bard's inspired High Elf Royalty team) and the Skaven-inator (Perry the Platypus & Friends)
the scoreline is 2-1 and 1-1 in casualties in favour of the High Elves
the Skaven received the ball but fluffed a pick-up (1,1) and the Elves pounced.
My Son is using all his early tactical nous to tie up potential scoring pieces and blitz with his Block, Mighty Blow Blitzer (Little Suzy Johnson). but the dice have not been unkind to me with 2+ being an easy roll. 4+ for a KO'd player is the only roll I cannot make, failing it 4 times so far (Prince Hamlet refusing to get out of bed and face life).
10 Elves face off against 12 skaven for the second half with the Elves to receive.
to be continued.....

Re: VuK and Son
so the second half played out somewhat like the first.
I received the ball and put 3 catchers in his half within scoring range.
he scrambled and popped the ball out, but I managed to get the ball back and score in turn 4
my KO'd player came back then
he then scored with a reversal after I committed 1 player too many to his fake
but there was not enough time for him to equalise
he MVP's a lineman and took kick as a skill for him.
I MVP'd a thrower and took leader to give me a second reroll.
so the next game is the Skaven versus the Dark Elves....
be a few days until this one though.
he is now learning the various casualty types and thinking of what he needs to create a ball stripper

Re: VuK and Son
Nice updates, thanks!

By now what parts of the rules are you using 'simplified' or not using at all?
On one of your last games you mention doing a "crowd push".
Did he understood the play? Has he tried it somehow?

Re: VuK and Son
Hi Axtklinge,
rule simplified/ignored as follows
kick off results - ignored
get the ref!
pitch invasion
Blitz (only if I roll it)
Weather
Weather ignored (although may bring it in next game)
fouling covered but neither of us is doing it. (I think that will be a season 2 item)
I stretch some team building scope to allow his Orc team more star players than normal if it exposes him to a skill or two that is new
I allow him to pick his MVP to get skills on his team
everything else is standard LRB6
he said he understood crowd pushes, but other than one time since, he has ignored some obvious chances to smack me into the fan base so I may have to wait for the next Norse versus XX match to really show him the power.
overall we will not play now until we get back from Florida in 3 weeks time.

Re: VuK and Son
as a plus i picked up a 4th gutter runner from ebay for him and we will paint that up and add it to the team, (he has 160k in his treasury).
we are both excited by the dark Elf / skaven game and will get to it as soon as we get back from the land of the Giant rat (WDW)

Re: VuK and Son
So apart from some minor details you're playing the full extent of it!
I've had trouble getting half of that into some grown up rookie coaches plenty of times.
I can only guess how proud you must be of your young one!
PS: Somehow this came to mind... http://tasmancave.blogspot.pt/2012/01/b ... ional.html
The young lad is the son of a fellow TFF'er too.

a good read that...
yes, I am very proud of him, he is more of a ball player than a bash acolyte, but give him time.

Hey, what's wrong with that!!

Sounds like fun though, hope that my kids will get interested someday. When they're a bit older.

Re: VuK and Son
Sooo... any new games to report?
By the way, have you introduced any kind of fluff (team and/or player names, stories, background, ...) or just playing the game?

Re: VuK and Son
after 3 weeks in Florida, we haven't got back to this yet. we were supposed to play D.E. vs Skaven but he has been on a lego frenzy since blowing £240 in Orlando.
Pirates of the Caribbean ahoy...
won't be long til I get the pitch in front of him again though

Re: VuK and Son
ok, so that game has finally been played...
The Skaven got off to a slow start and were 2-0 down by the end of the Dark Elf turn 4 (they had received). The Skaven also used their Apoth in Turn 2 when a Gutter runner was killed in a 1 die block from an unskilled Dark Elf lineman
Next drive they Skaven scored in a stunning end to end move that moved the ball 22 spaces, really using the Blodge Gutter runners to the max.
The Elves scored again to make it 3-1 and it looked like Skaven may have time to do something else but the move went wrong (Skaven turn 7), it started with the Rat Ogre (who did not fail a single WA roll) KO'ing himself on a both down 2 die block.
The Second Half was a flurry of armour breaks and KO's, my son insisted on keeping the D8 to hand for when he scored the inevitable ( in his mind) casualty. The returned rat Oger KO'd 4 Dark Elves and made life very difficult with his prehensile tail.
However the Dark Elves made it 5-2 and left the Skaven only a short time to do anything, the lost the ball, but managed to intercept and score in turn 8
so 5-3 and 1-0, we both skilled up 3 players each
Dark Elves
rookie Lineman took Tackle
rookie Lineman took Kick
rookie Witch Elf took Wrestle
Skaven
rookie Thrower took Dump Off (jealousy over watching the Dark Elf Runners I tell you)
Blodge Gutter Runner took Sure Feet
rookie Gutter Runner took Block
I will have to check the schedule to see which game is up next, but there is a slight side step to play a couple of games against Sigismund on Monday, it's going to be a blast to have someone else physically see I am not a bot.
