What does "made official" mean? GW permission to change the rules seems pretty official. You will never see me play the Cyanide rules on a board unless they are made official.
How could a new BBRC work?

If I had forgotten all about that board game, I probably wouldn`t careRegash wrote:The BBRC were officially formed by GW, right?
How would you like the idea of inventing a boadgame and then finding out someone else gives out "official" rule changes without you even knowing?!?

To be serious, though, Cyanide does indeed seem to have green light to make changes to the game from GW. Or perhaps they just do it anyways, and noone in GW cares? End result is the same. And I guess this makes BB2 as "official" as it gets, ruleswise.

Re: How could a new BBRC work?
I wonder if some context might be useful in this debate.
For those concerned about splitting the community the likely size of the split can be found by comparing TT player numbers with the number of Cyanide players which can be seen here - http://steamspy.com/search.php?s=blood+bowl
So in the last two weeks 11,700 people played Cyanide Blood Bowl (+/- admittedly). The Cyanide community is large and assuming they eventually migrate to BB2 (not at all assured) it may well prove to be the case that the Cyanide ruleset is the most played by some margin.

Again, you still have to distinguish between the computer game license and the actual IP itself.straume wrote:End result is the same. And I guess this makes BB2 as "official" as it gets, ruleswise.
Cyanide may have any right to do to online Blood Bowl, yeah.
But they can in no way touch the boardgame.
And this is what pisses me off.
No one of these guys seems to give the divided community only half a thought.
Rumor has it, Pass Block was dropped because it was to hard to prgram this skill. REALLY?!?

Just because so many people take the convenience of online play, it doesn't mean Cyanide can do whatever they want.
And, by the way, where is the number of boardgames been played, so you have something to compare it to?

If GW say they can then they can. That's kind of the point.

They can...
To the computer game!
But not the boardgame!
They have no license for the boardgame!

Re: How could a new BBRC work?
Nobody is touching the board game, even GW. In fact, afaik the only place hosting the current rulebook is cyanide. It's not an unreasonable statement to say that the board game has been discontinued. If a discontinued board game is still played then what makes the rules official? And if GW are the only people who can say what is official and they have given Cyanide the ability to change the official rules then it would seem it is the board game which is now unofficial. But they can in no way touch the boardgame.

Which they didn't!dode74 wrote:...and they have given Cyanide the ability to change the official rules...
But it is absolutely pointless to discuss this any longer.
You have your point of view and I have mine.
You think I am wrong and I think you are.
So I will keep my posts out of this thread as ist became absolutely pointless.
You go play online, buy BB2 and have your fun, I'll stick to board, dice and minis and have mine.

You don't know they didn't. ShteveO suggested earlier they might well have.

Re: How could a new BBRC work?
BBRC have the approval from GW.
Then GW disbanded BBRC.
And then published CRP as the last official rules version. Without Chaos Pact, Slann and Underworld.
Following some arguments here, they are absolutely non-official teams.
And everyone play them because NAF accepted them as official for their purposes and forums like this one spread the word of BBRC. But no offical GW endorsement was made.

It absolutely wasn't meant to. I was just providing some information that might colour the debate.Regash wrote:This basically reads like "Eat sh*t, millions of flies can't be wrong!"
Agreed. Like I said, I was providing data and context for the debate.Regash wrote:Just because so many people take the convenience of online play, it doesn't mean Cyanide can do whatever they want.
I don't have that information but there's a good chance that someone at The NAF has that data if anyone does. The number of FUMBBL players would also be a relevant statistic.Regash wrote:And, by the way, where is the number of boardgames been played, so you have something to compare it to?

I think, NAF-data will only consist of games played in official tournaments.Raveen wrote:...but there's a good chance that someone at The NAF has that data...
Got nothing to do with actually games played.
Anyway, I'm out now.

Re: How could a new BBRC work?
1. GW to host a rules pdf with the Cyanide rules in it.dode74 wrote:Assuming cyanide make these changes, what exactly would be required beyond cyanide having licence to do so from gw for them to be official?GW would still have to make these rules official.
Or
2. GW to say (openly) that Cyanide are now the official rules body for Blood Bowl.
I don't see #1 happening anytime in the future, given GWs current feeling towards BB (and other Specialist Games). #2 is a possibility, but I expect there would be potential legal ramifications if they "signed" the rules over to Cyanide, so I don't expect that to happen either "just in case" GW ever decided to support BB again.
So as it stands, unless anything comes from GW to say differently, Cyanide is just using a set of (imho crap) house rules that has no more legitimacy than the LRBARBBL that I'm kicking around, it's just that their house rules will have more players.
