Dice for the tourney
What is the situation with dice for the tourney? Do we need to bring our own block, 6s & 8s? Or are they provided at the tables?
What's the opinion of "cocked" dice? I realize there should be an agreement prior to the match but what's the general concensus?
My league says anything not flat on the table is cocked and should be re-rolled.

I establish before each game with my opponent. Sometimes they look at me like I'm being completely anal retentive but it's easier to determine what is cocked before it becomes important, rather than later when the game could well be on the line.
For the record, I call anything not on a single, flat surface cocked. Reroll any cocked dice and leave the rest as they are.

We otoh state that when one die falls off the table, or other occurences, you have to reroll all.....Marcus wrote: For the record, I call anything not on a single, flat surface cocked. Reroll any cocked dice and leave the rest as they are.
Therefore, I also ask beforehand what to do to avoid confusion....

Far as I am concerned a legal roll has to be laying flat when come to rest, be on the table and not rolled into other dice, cause that can cause confusion as to which dice were rolled (Though blood bowl uses less dice than warhammer etc)
Also I tihnk you have to take your own dice, if you take everything except the tables and dugout, you should be pretty much covered.

Tournament dice are one of my little pet peeves. In a tournament setting where dice rolls are an important part of the outcome you would think that dice consistancy through all coaches would be an important consideration. I've seen big dice, small dice, funny shaped dice, micro dice, dice with weird symbols, you name it. How can you ever trust your opponents dice? If you know the guy across the table it's one thing but for a tournament where people come from out of town, how do you ever really know what your opponent is playing?
There should be a standard for the dice that can be used at a tournament or better yet a tournament should provide the dice. Now obviously that would be hard to do with the block dice but the d6's would be easy enough to provide. Buy a big tub and give everyone 3 dice when they check in. I know it would put me at peace of mind to be sure my opponent's dice are just as sad as my own

Nasty dice
I remember I played in a Games Day BloodBowl tournament back when 2nd edition was around. In those days there were no special block dice, you used a normal set for blocks (high rolls best) and for your own armour saves (low rolls best). I played a guy who had one set for his blocks and one for his saves. The only rolls he ever failed were when he accidently rolled the "wrong" set of dice for the event. Despite complaints from myself and everybody he played against the GW officials refused to force him to use one set of dice, a set provide by them or me or to let me use his dice. Of course he went on to win the tournament. The following year, guess what, my first game was against the same guy, and the same thing happened again leaving me in 2nd place once again.
I would like to believe that such a thing would never happen again, but you can never tell with GW. Maybe GW should supply the dice. Has anyone else come against something like this?

I think people should be forced to use GW dice (some friends use BIG non GW dice which make leather shaking a joke).
About rolling dice I always reroll all dice if one of them is not flat.
Not about dice but... do you usually show your roster and tell skills of your players to the other coach? In our leagues we always answer if someone asks but I don't know abroad...

Re: Nasty dice
I've come upon quite a few questionable dice in my time and from experience those using them are usually the first people to cry foul at the suggestion of tournament provided dice. Supplying the dice at a tournament only makes sense. Anyone, including myself, could be using loaded dice. Everyone knows that gamer dice are anything but random. You'll buy one set that consistantly rolls high and another that consistantly rolls low. Why? because they are usually cheap dice and quality control isn't a factor when making them. Pretty colors and the biggest rounded corners are for some reason though.cidervampire wrote:I would like to believe that such a thing would never happen again, but you can never tell with GW. I'm firmly on the side that all the dice at any tournament should be the same. Small, large, micro, funky whatever, but they should all be the same.
