EVENT: English Euro Cup | Sun 12th Aug | Bugman's Bar
Hi all
In an effort to fulfil the two aims of a) providing practice for coaches attending EurOpen and EuroBowl in Cardiff and b) allowing any interested coach the opportunity to develop their game in a competitive and constructive environment, I present the English Euro Cup!
-This will be a non-NAF event in order to facilitate a relaxed and constructive vibe
-Anyone is welcome (you don’t even have to be English!)
-Hopefully as many Team England players as possible can attend
-Venue is Bugman's Bar at Warhammer World in Lenton, Nottingham
Structure:
-16 players capacity
-Three games starting at 10:30 and wrapped up by 18:00
-Pick one race to play with, Cardiff rules (see Eurobowl.eu)
-Individual, Swiss, points scoring as Cardiff
-I will ask for a small donation* of £5 (let me know if you would like to come and I will pm you my PayPal)
-Funds will be used to buy a prize and trophy for the winner
-You must bring GW miniatures only since this is Warhammer World; if there is any issue with that then I’m sure within the group of 16 then someone will be able to loan teams/minis as required
-*I understand I'm not allowed to charge an entry fee per se
Ethos:
-This will be a competitive event just like any other tourney on the calendar, there will be winners and losers but the most important aim is to facilitate practice
-We would encourage a spirit of discussion about tactics, choices, rosters etc. during and between games, this may even extend to those spectating matches when theirs is complete (within reason)
-EO/EB players are encouraged to bring a choice of race they may use in Cardiff, though that is not mandatory
2018 Results:
1. MaceJedi 5pts (Wood Elf)
2. Geggster 5pts (Amazon)
3. Gorgoroth 4pts (Chaos)
4. Pipey 3pts (Lizardmen)
5. Nippylongskar 3pts (Dwarf)
6. Vagabond 3pts (Dark Elf)
7. KFoged 3pts (Wood Elf)
8. Anacron 3pts (Necromantic)
9. DanDavies 2pts (Elf Union)
10. Deeferdan 1pt (Elf Union)
11. WWE2105 0pts (Orc)
Scoring was 2/1/0 for W/D/L
First tiebreaker = sum of opponents scores
Second tiebreaker = net TD plus net Cas
KFoged played 2 games only
Deeferdan played 1 game only

Fantastic idea. I've slipped a thread in the tourney area as well, simply redirecting peeps to this thread. Just in case some folk go there only and dont see this

TOs! You do not need multiple copies of rosters. It's a waste of paper.
Bribe level: good coffee.

Great idea, although if this is intended to support TE and allow other English players to develop their games with a view to one day possibly representing TE, then would it be better to keep it to English coaches only, at least in the first instance but perhaps opening it up to the wider community later if there are unfilled places?

@ SB I think that's the intention and hence it's posted here rather than tournament postings...probably worth clarifying though Pipey?

I'm a British Freebooter, will play for any team including Undead (I have my own Apothecary). Good rates.

Re: EVENT: English Euro Cup | Sun 12th Aug | Warhammer World
I'd love to attend and would be there... issue is my little girl is due to be born on the 12th August.
Good luck with the BB practice. DeeferDan can maybe pass me tips through osmosis at some point in a practice game.

Re: EVENT: English Euro Cup | Sun 12th Aug | Warhammer World
I guess that can be discussed. Just defaulted to the most inclusive option, just in case someone not English was in town and had a real hankering to attend! Guess I'm hoping in the first instance that Team England EB guys will get on board to share their experience, with others welcome within the capacity.speedingbullet wrote:Great idea, although if this is intended to support TE and allow other English players to develop their games with a view to one day possibly representing TE, then would it be better to keep it to English coaches only, at least in the first instance but perhaps opening it up to the wider community later if there are unfilled places?
Happy to put this on, since it doesn't involve that much work in truth

Hopefully it will be a success!

I'm game for this. After the drumming Kåre gave me over the weekend I can definitely do with the practice.

Yes please, but maybe as a Spectator / Roving Source of Sideline Opinion that can be drawn upon by coaches mid-game? If the aim is for those who have been there to pass on thinking/experience then I think it would be more value than me simply playing. Thoughts?

That's a really good point. The assumption is that one of the TE guys would win, logically.Podfrey wrote:Yes please, but maybe as a Spectator / Roving Source of Sideline Opinion that can be drawn upon by coaches mid-game? Maybe having a couple of you playing and a couple observing, with the option to swap between rounds (so you're not missing out on the opportunity to roll 1s and skulls with us mere mortals), would be a good mix?

With that being said, I'm proof that upsets do happen, so anyone can win on the day!

Aspiring to improve on mid-table mediocrity, over in the SAWBBL.
