Love of Wood Elfs

Post by Mail »

Despite my strong desire to field a Wood Elf team I'm about to give up. I've tried to start up 5 different WE teams but they've all turned belly up within 1-6 games. Any tips or pointer on just how to play them in order to survive with these little fellows.

PS. I've always had a Tree as I read that it would decrease casualties at the line, but it doesn't seem to be enough.

I would help to know which startups you had annd against which teams you played. There is no simple answer to this question.

Well, it happened to 4 of my 5 last dwarf sides as well.
I'm about to give up
Very good idea, I did the same and never regretted it. You can try again once the Vaultrules become official as they deal with those sorts of problems.

There are some very good strategy guides available on the internet. Go look them up. I think there are some (links) at Galak's site: www.midgardbb.com There should be anyway :)

Of those The Eclectic Elf is by far the best, maybe the best guide written for bb ever, read that one and you will be well on your way.

I love woodies, the team Ive played more than any in this game. Tryed the other elf teams, but coaching them doesnt come close to the sensation of coaching the greenest of elves. They are the Porsche of bb; fast, agile and...will put a drain on your purse.

Compared to the other elf teams, woodies can play an effektive defense that limits contact with the other team to a minimum, developed pro and high elves can do that too sometimes but not as well as the woodies.

In a league situation the woodies are the only elven race that has an effective weapon against cages with the wardancers. So I'd say they are the way to go if you want to play elfbowl.

The difficult part is that, especially in shorter leagues, the ff are generally low. This makes it a lot harder to keep a full squad than for instance playing on fumbbl, where ff9 to start is pretty much a given for any race.

Stick with it, it will become fun.

My Bulls have the "Thin Skull" trait. After every block they make, roll a D6. On a 1+ they get ko-ed and stay in the ko-box for the rest of the game.

wood elf are very good as a team.

Not that it will be obviouse but they are good initialy and also at high
team rating; not often true of most races in the game. Dont worry if that means nothing.

I have found after playing years of the other elfs in BB that woodies are great due mostly to two things. First the ma7 means every player can throw the ball, flood down the pitch on offense, cover defense quickly and blitz without too much effort. However that comes at the cost of being very weak. - few (any?) teams will be weaker and hence their strategy to win will be based on beating up the elf.

The second advantage of wood over other elf sides is the blitzer that is practicaly a one man defense. The wardancer is so fundamental to most basic strategy for wood elf - they have a huge influence on the game. Put one man next to 2 in a cage, leap the wardancer a blitz the ball, maybe even follow up and pick it up. Thats essentially a easy powerfull defense that will give good results.

--------------------------------------
Mostly i have offered very little help to "play them in order to survive". Thats because when you understand all aspects of their game the longevity of the team and effectivness will be more apparent.

Play hard on defense and go for the ball. Pay little attention to anything else as scoring will take off loads of pressure in terms of surival. More skill you have in scoring and defending the better the team should be. Keep massive pressure on the ball and the other player should have far less chance to detroy your team while they concentrate on more important things.
