Pro Elf Team Development - help!

Post by Brandir »

I have just taken up Blood Bowl again after a few years off. My team is Pro Elf. Below are listed the skills I have taken so far:

Catcher - Dodge
Blitzer - Dodge
Thrower - Accurate
Line Elf - Block
Line Elf - Leader
9 other Line Elves - no skills

After my third game the Catcher rolled a double (thus allowed any skill or a General/Agility trait) and a Line Elf is allowed a new General or Agility skill.

Thing is, can't make up my mind!

I was considering making the Line Elf into a catcher and giving him the Catch skill.

The catcher, well either Block or Sure Feet.

Any ideas?

Why?

My thinking for Sure Feet is it gives me a re-roll (I only have 2 plus a leader re-roll).

Alternatively Block would enhance his chances of living - he has scored 6 TDs out of the team's total of 9. This catcher will quickly become a mahnet for blocks.

He may have been kidding but I like Dump Off on the pro elf catcher.

Because it is doubles for 1. I would wait for any regular skill on your next skill up - including block or sure feet.

2 wouldn't you like to score on your opponent's turn?
3 at the very least now all players (even unskilled) within quick pass range of your ball carrier now require attention.

If he's blitzing this catcher with dump-off (NOS and the ball) your catcher can toss it to another (NOS) catcher and ruin his defense.

Think of the ability you will have to interfere with his defensive plays. He'll have to cover any elf within quick pass range before he can blitz this ball carrier - and with the other catchers being NOS, it won't help stop you from catching it. - Think of it as ball control (you retain possesion) and forcing your oppenent to make move that are not beneficial to his ideal play.

I like Dump off on the catcher. It may not get used much some-times, (like pass block) but its prescence changes the way your oppenent plays.
(And is it a bad thing to not have your ball carrier blitzed ?)
Block next.

For the line-elf I've found block or dodge to go on the line is better than getting another "catcher". The move 6 really limits line elf scoring ability (compared to move 7 wood elf lineman for example) and the av7 on the line (compared to High and Dark) really takes a beating.

I like dodge first as it allows you to dis-engage from markers, and distracts tackle pieces from your more expensive catchers and blitzers.

Massive Dump Offer team (pro elf i mean) is a nightmare to defence. First you must blitz the ball carrier, and then with the players left you must to mace a cage or something around the NEW ball carrier... if the catchers also has leap... this is just unstopable... even worst than a one-turner....cause there are... 4 CATCHERS...

I hate those nasty elves

Although I have caused a few casualties, my style is more of a running game. Therefore I think I will give my Line Elf the Dodge skill.

But I do like Block, so I will probably alternate between Block and Dodge (unless I get a double). Kick may be my next Line Elf option though.

Dump Off is intriguing me. It would be perfect with another catcher (I am saving up for one!). Hmmm - any ther suggestions?

Dump Off on the catcher, but I agree with you it will be nasty when you have a second catcher.
Block on the LineElf.

I took Frenzy on my elf catcher and in the few games since then, it has worked out pretty well. Of course it was his second skill so he already had block so I don't have to be timid about using it. He is now a very good player on both offense and defense.

Pro Elf Catchers are EVIL!

Post by Jimmy Nids »

I saw a guy with 2 Pro Elf Catchers identical.

After 5 games, both had Dump Off, Leap, Block and Side Step. Can you say oh god I can't get it away from them!

On the plus side, at least I only need 2 people to foul them to death while the rest kill other stuff :)

Now, Frenzy for an Elf Catcher is an interesting choice.

Perhaps a good choice for a defensive catcher?

Anyway, the game is at about 19:00 hrs tonight so I have another 8 hrs 30 mins or so to mither and procrastinate about my choice of skill ....
