Norse linemen and getting skills
I'm playing with Norse in our League ( LRB5 ) and now my first liner got a skill. This naturally lead me looking at potential skills to take and to my surprise noticed that the liners do not have access to Guard and can only take General skills.
I assume most people might take a Dirty Player or two to their team, Tackle would be handy and Strip ball could also be used for good. What kind of reasoning have people used when "training" their liners for Norse team?

hmm in 5.0?
Normal skill picks:
1 Kick
1-2 Dirty Player
2 Tacklers
1-2 Dauntless (Maybe even with Wrestle ontop of Block here)
Also Fend is very good for Norse, it really slows down any attempts to grind against you, while also protecting against Piling On/Frenzy.
Anyone had experience with additional Frenzy Linemen on the Norse team?

My bad to start with, just noticed that we are actually using LRB4. Where did I pick up the idea that we were using 5th,? Sorry about the hassle fellows with the edition.
If I were lucky enough to roll doubles then Guard would be the easy choice. Dauntless has not gotten to catchers yet and is a Trait so requires those darn doubles.
What is Fend? Something out of the experimental rules or a piece of BB-jargon that I am unfamiliar with?
I was thinking about kick but not as a first pick. My next league opponent if goblins so Tackle does come handier at this tage but a kicker is clearly in the pipeline as soon as a potential fellow has gotten enough points. After three games I have managed to injury a single opponent. No lucky with Nuffle, the old bastard.

Yeah, Fend is from LRB 5.0. It works when the player is blocked by allowing you to say "You can't follow up." It's a nice skill, but as you're in 4.0 forgedaboutit.Iceman wrote:What is Fend? Something out of the experimental rules or a piece of BB-jargon that I am unfamiliar with?

As you have Block, Tackle isn't quite as important against Goblins (which you should beat anyway.) But that's your choice, Kick is normally the first skill I like to take on a Lineman. I find that it allows me to dictate the terms of the play and that helps when your on the D. Still it's your call there.Iceman wrote:I was thinking about kick but not as a first pick. As for the lack of CAS, well that should change soon. My brand New Woodies have just played 2 stunty teams and as a consequence have caused more CAS then scored TDs.

I will be playing my first (ever) match with Norse next week. This will be under LRB 5.0
MY choices for linemen will be
Normal Rolls
Tackle * 3-4
Kick * 1
DP * 2
Fend * 3-4
Wrestle * 2
Double Rolls
Guard
Mighty Blow
Jump Up
Dodge
I am looking forward to it as my first match is against a TV 1.14m High Elf team and I intend to induce the Chainsaw guy and a Babe and block his pansy Elf ass off.
