LRB5 Dark Elf TR 100 tournament

Post by Jeremiah Kool »

I was considering playing Dark Elves in a LRB 5 TR 100 tournament. Before the tournament you get 6 skills.

4 x Blitzer 400
1 x Runner 80
6 x Lineman 420
2 x RR 100
0 x FF 0

Three Blitzers get Dodge, one Blitzer gets Leap for cagebreaking (a poor man´s Wardancer). The Runner provides a third Reroll with Leader (I need to protect him even more) which IMO is huge for an elven team. The sixth skill will be Block or Diving Tackle for a Lino.

I´m not too sure about those new LRB5 skills like Wrestle or Fend. They sound very nice but I´d rather have things like Dodge or Block first.

I'd give Dauntless to one of the Blitzers.

man in a tourney where you get skills BEFORE the games start, witch elves would be great, because you could give them block.

How about this:

2 witches w/blk - 220
1 blitzer w/dauntless - 100
1 runner with sure hands - 80
7 lineelves, one w/ kick and one w/whatever... -490
2 rr
1 ff

You could also switch one of the lineelves to another runner if you chose and lose that last ff.

Is this team for Bamberg? Then I would definitely go for Dauntless with so many Strength teams around.

@Wesleytj: Witch Elves are cool but I prefer having 4 Blitzers and one Runner. But I might go this way because I wanted to play something different this time. Unfortenately with only one Blitzer on the team I can´t have two reliable players with Leap/Block and Dauntless/Block.

@Mootaz: It´s for Bamberg (I´m still undecided if I play Dark Elves or my usual Dwarves). There are a lot of Orc teams so Dauntless could be great. So maybe I do it this way:

2 x Dodge (Blitzer)
Dauntless (Blitzer)
Leap (Blitzer)
Leader (Runner)
Wrestle (Lineman)

After some thinking I really like Wrestle on a Lineman against Block-heavy teams. It´s also a good skill against players with Blodge.

Well if those skills are that important to you, you could still have 2 blitzers and one witch. don't underestimate how nasty a witch elf with block would be in that environment. she'll make your opponent's adjust their strategy to deal with her in most cases, she's that significant.

Anyway, let me suggest this then:

2 Blitzers 200
1 Witch 110
2 Runners 160
6 Line Elves 420
2 RR 100
1 FF

Your Blitzers can Take dauntless and leap, the witch block, i'd do one runner with sure hands, the other with kick (or leader if you're stuck on that, since it is a passing skill now), and then a line elf with kick (if you didn't give it to the runner) or wrestle or whatever else. maybe even sneaky git if you really want a dark elven feel. I don't tend to foul at tourneys, but if you do that might be a good way to go.

I think that's a much nastier roster than you are using, but YMMV.

Have you considered 4 blitzers with dodge and 2 runners with nerves of steel? Not many low TV teams are going to be able to deal with that sort of running cage...

can't do 4 blitzers and 2 runners without losing a reroll, which isn't worth it imo.

now, my suggested roster, otoh, does have 2 runners if indeed you felt like doing that... 8)

as a side note, i have to say that this is testament to lrb 5.0 rules changes, that dark elves have these many options at a tr100 tourney. they used to be rather limited.

And that team would leave you with 1 RR...

I know, but I have always gone reroll light skill heavy in tournaments. At least with elves who are more forgiving once your out of rerolls...

that theory makes SOME sense when the skills you're taking give skill rerolls. IE sure hands on runners, dodge on blitzers, etc etc etc. but i still wouldn't trust it. a very few poorly timed ones or skulls can totally screw your whole game...playing with that small a margin of error is BEGGING the dice gods to bring wrath upon you.

i find that even 2 rerolls is very rarely enough to make it through a half without having something potentially catastrophic happen. i'd hate to try it with 1.

I would go with the 2 blitzers, 1 witch, 2 runner line up WTJ suggests. As for skills I am not convinced about dodge. 1 surehands for a runner, wrestle for a lineman, block for a blitzer, frenzy for the witch, leap for the other blitzer and possibly leap also for the other runner or even sprint. 2 re-rolls and 1 ff.
Its good to see that DE's might actually start to show in tourneys under the new rules.

Frenzy comes stock on Witches doesn't it? Perhaps you meant Block ? :Or shudder: Wrestle?

yeah, nightdragon, you said to take block on a blitzer and frenzy on a witch elf...seems a bit redundant. :)

Actually I meant dauntless, but realised that she would not be allowed it, then got confused as blitzers come with block, reread the 6 skill rule and forgot about the witch. So I am confused. If you have only 6 skills do they start with nothing? If so I would give the witch frenzy. If they come with their starting skills then block or even dodge and I was considering pass block, but with mainly hard teams decided against this. :smoking:
