Skaven Lineman (Linerat) Double Roll
Hi all,
First of all, im quite new to LRB5.0 so forgive my inexperience.
My team, in a mixed league, after three games, looks like this:
Lineman - NEW SKILL (rolled DB3)
Lineman
Lineman
Lineman
Lineman
Lineman
G Runner - dodge, block
G Runner - dodge, block
G Runner - dodge, block
G Runner - dodge
Blitzer - block
Blitzer - block
My question is as follows, should i...
1. Ignore the db roll and try and keep him on his feet with Block
2. Improve the team defence and take Guard
3. Help his movement by taking Dodge
4. Take Leader due to the lack of a Thrower in the team
Horms, Claw and MB also seems good options to try and compete with the stronger teams.
**Surely Kick would be a waste of a db roll and can wait for the next Lineman to reach 6SPP**
What do you think?
All advice will be greatfully recieved,
Many thanks in advance,
Pete

You don't say how many rerolls you have so I can't really judge Leader.
Other than that I'd save Claws for the Storm Vermin so I'd go with Guard. Only two of your players can take this on normal roles and you might want them doing other things than thinking about where they can stand to assist the most people. A lineman on the other hand, that can be his role.
And you can never have too much of it.

Main job of Linemen on a Skaven team is standing on the LoS. For all the other stuff you have excellent positionals (4 GR's, 2 SV's and 1 RO).
So you need to make sure your Linerat survives as long as possible. I would be tempted to go for Dodge. Although Tackle obviously nullifies Dodge, not that many teams field Tackle players. Even after some team development.
After all those years and new skills, Blodge remains the way to go if you're stuck with AV7.
Don't take Claw. It's not that fantastic anyway and against an AV9 team (Orcs, Dwarfs) you're better off running than going toe-to-toe with the opposition.
Guard is always good. But will you use it on your Los? Your Linemen will get smacked anyway.
Dodge simply is such a good skill... Especially on MA7 players.

Go for Guard!
You don't have any of it. And I find Guard one of the most important skills after Block and Dodge. It wins games for you. Especially as you don't have Guard on one of your blitzers.
it might be a little bit boring, but it will really help. It's really good on defense against the cage (in combination with a Rat Ogre).
If you want to ignore the double go for kick. Kick helps the team, while Block helps the rat itself.

Guard, Skaven teams get precious few Guard players and having a few more of those help a lot.
Claw isn't worth the effort without Mighty Blow. So leave Claw for the Blitzers/Rat Ogre.
Leader isn't worth it imo as you can always get a Thrower for Leader.
End result, my choices would be from Guard or Foul Appearance.

Thanks for all the advice guys.
One of the main reasons i love Blood Bowl, as this thread clearly shows, is that everyone has a different opinion on team development. Great stuff.
After reading all the replies i think i am going to go with Dodge on my Lineman. It has the defensive bonus of making him harder to hit and should allow me to keep him out of tackle zones of tougher opponents. I always dodge my Gutter Runners out of tacke zones and with dodge i can now afford to do that with a Lineman too. Therefore, making at least five (four if you count the opposition blitz action) players on my team safe from blocks every turn.
Also, dodge should allow my lineman to assist with a few offensive blocks to make a gap for my Gutter Runners to run through.
Im just hoping for another skill on the same player, a dodge AND block Linerat would be a great addition to any team!
Thanks again, and i am sure i will post again soon,
Pete
