Advice on mutating High Elves?
Ok, this is a RIDICULOUS situation, and I PROMISE this isn't one of those "dig me" threads bragging about a player/team...but I seriously need some advice.
Just won that Chaos Cup, and my mutations are going to an unskilled Blitzer (for whom I'll prob take hypno gaze), and this player:
Helf Catcher: catch, blodge, NoS, Fan Favorite (for spp leader last season)
This bozo got the mutation AND is skilling up...so...?
I was thinking big hand, and leap for the skill...that way the idiot can leap into a cage, grab the ball on a 2+, pass out on 2+ quick or 3+ short.
Or I could take VLL coupled with pass block: INT on a 4+ with a free catch reroll...but if I did this NO ONE would pass on his side of the pitch (NTM that the league skews towards bash, and rarely passes anyway). But skilling him this way would def keep him alive longer (not much longer, but a bit:)).
Thoughts from the think tank?

If I was taking VLL I'd be taking Leap, not Pass Block.
If you wanted to take Pass Block, I'd take Disturbing Prescence. He already catches (Very!) well and that extra -1 on top of your tackle zone really bother an opposing coach (can't imagine why...).
@ Grumbledook.
You're right but you can also take three Extraordinairy skills in this situation:
Stab, Regenerate and Hyp Gaze.

Thanks for the advice, gents!
So it seems like Big Hand gets the most support...what about the skill then?
And I like Hypno on the blitzer for making holes in the line...with this and my blitz action too, I can usually send catchers down both wide zones at the same time. Also, as it's an agility check, hyp is most effective on an elf.

Sorry Jony, Hypno is an "extraordinary" and not a mutation.
yes I know Eldril got it from playing in the Chaos Cup, but damnit that is because he is a star and your guy is merely a player.....
"They" do not want your guy being a Star, that is why he could never get 7 skills
no Human Blitzer could ever be Griff.....
another league rule I had to re-introduce was the SPP brackets
6, 16, 31, 51, 76, 126, 201.

Code: Select all
D3 random players may immediately take any Mutation skill, Hypnotic Gaze, Stab, or Regeneration in addition to any skills they already possess
Hypnotic gaze makes a hole, 2nd blitzer moves into the cage and knocks the ball loose, leaping big hander gets the ball and passes to another catcher who is away... Very broken. Have fun ?

As Father pointed out ... not true ... its the same thing with Icepelt having Regeneration.voyagers_uk wrote:Sorry Jony, Hypno is an "extraordinary" and not a mutation.

Incorrect (all the non Big Guy (including Luthor with this group)/non-weapon Stars (including Stab as a weapon) in LRB 5.0 are buildable from base stock players. Look at Griff and a Blitzer"They" do not want your guy being a Star, that is why he could never get 7 skills
no Human Blitzer could ever be Griff.....
Griff Oberwald 7/4/4/8 Block, Dodge, Fend, Sprint, Sure Feet
Blitzer 7/3/3/8 Block
So ... +1 ST, +1 AG, Dodge, Fend, Sprint, Sure Feet
Only 6 skills ... you can create Griff from a Human Blitzer with really good skill rolls (an 11, a 12, 3 Doubles, and 1 Normal)

You may be right, and yet I am unmoved! I still think the SPP bands did not need changing.

Wow...this convo has taken quite a turn...
Anyhoo, I went with BH and Leap on my "star player"...he's up to 240k if you want to freeboot him;)
And Hypno on the other...
Good feedback...we'll see if my league thinks he's already broken, or if they're the ones that want to do the breaking.
Cheers!

Hypnotic gaze by itself is not broken (or else Edril would be winning games left and right) It's the combination of all these "super" players he has that are going to have people grinding their teeth. Until they kill them off at least...GalakStarscraper wrote:Problem with Gaze ... is the same one Stab has. Couldn't have put it any better. Stops you needing to develop a Wardancer substitute to break cages (player with Leap, Block/wrestle and Strip Ball-instead you just need a strip ball, wrestler) It will win you matches, lots of them, until they die anyway......Hypnotic gaze makes a hole, 2nd blitzer moves into the cage and knocks the ball loose, leaping big hander gets the ball and passes to another catcher who is away... Very broken. Have fun ?

Any High Elf (or "good" player for that matter) that takes mutations should be killed immediately.

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.
