Wood Elves for the BB

Post by mrbrownesquire »

Hi guys

I was thinking of taking wood elves to the BB this year and wanted opinions on these team ideas:

Team 1
2 wardancers
2 catchers
1 thrower
5 linemen
1 treeman

FF 2

I have played against a team like this in a tournament and couldn’t stop it. For skills I was thinking:

1 leader (thrower)
2 kick
3 strip ball (wardancer)
4 block (catcher)
5 sidestep/block (catcher)

Taking leader first will at least give me one reroll. What do you think?

The other team option is:

Team 1
2 wardancers
2 catchers
1 thrower
6 linemen

1 reroll
2 ff

Team 1 is nice, but elves will roll 1s and with just the 1 rr, which is itself dependant on a fragile player being on the pitch, it could be risky.

But You have got 4 players with dodge rerolls (unless you're playing against tacklers) and will have catch rerolls and a pass reroll, so it could work out ok.

Definitely a gamblers team, but if your luck holds, it should do well.

Skill choices look good.

a side to be proud of, it is tempting to try that as my league set up instead of the planned one...... Hmmmm

I am leaning more to team 1 due to the added punch of the treeman.

I played Longfang's orcs last night with the following team and just conceeded a 2-2 draw (damn lucky last turn inaccurate passes :)).

2 wardancers
3 catchers
1 thrower
5 linemen
1 treeman

However, the point I really felt was the lack of re-rolls. I was considering dropping the treeman for a lineman and a re-roll. My treeman did not do much other than muck up two dice blocks. Was I just unlucky with him, or does my team really need a re-roll? Leader would be my first skill choice.

I think you need at least two rerolls.
My wood elf team looks like this:

* 2 wardancers
* 3 catchers
* 6 linemen
* 3RR
* 2 FF

The downside is only 11 players, but you could exchange 1 reroll and the 2 fans for another lino, then you have 12 players.

That looks like TR110 to me. The BB is TR100.

I've never taken Wood Elves to a tournie but having played against a bunch of them, I don't rate the Treeman, especially as you don't have a double skill option to Block him up.

He's great in a league to protect your players and when you have the chance to get him a couple of skills (Grab, Block and Tentacles (Chaos Cup) being the Dream).
But in a tournie side with 1 reroll it's a risk to block with him and most sides will dodge away from him the moment he rolls Take Root. He's also irrelevant to how Wood Elves win games.

But as I'll be at the BB and I'd rather see a treeman than an extra reroll. Go right ahead.

I would not use a treeman at a tourney, especially if it is a 1.0 mil tourney. Good coaches will just avoid him, and then he is an expensive piece of useless metal.

I reckon 2 War Dancers, 1 Catcher, 8 Line, 2 RR + 1 other is the best choice... but then I like the rerolls.

I think that the best roster is :
2WD
3Catcher
1Thrower
1 Treeman
4 Line

skill

leader (TH)
frenzy (WD)
Strip Ball (WD)
Kick (Catcher)
block line or Grab treeman
