Starting LRB5 League - Humans!
Well we're starting an open league in my club, LRB5 and im taking humans.
My starting roster:
4 Blitzers.
4 Linemen.
2 Catchers.
1 Thrower.
4 Re-Rolls.
30K Banked.
My opponents are: Skaven, Undead and Necromantic. (Possible Lizzies & High Elves to)
Development wise im thinking of an Apoth first purchase. then a second thrower, lineman. Other Re-rolls should be bought to.
Skills wise im thinking:
Blizters: Wrestle, Dodge, Mighty Blow, Tackle, Strip Ball, Juggernaut
Linemen: Block, Wrestle, Leader, Dirty Player, Strip Ball
Catchers: Block, Sure Feet, Sure Hands, (Dauntless?)
Throwers: Block, Accurate, Dodge
Thats my choice's at the moment for skil development. however, what about doubles, other skill choices, star players? I've neevr played humans before so this is totally new for me.
Cheers guys

Don't bother with Wrestle on the Blitzers - Guard is the skill of choice. Especially as the other teams in the league so far have access to less ST players than you, out muscle them and just have a couple of Wrestle Linemen/Catchers if you want to use that skill for dragging down players.

If my rulebook isn't very different from yours, Dodge is no regular option for Human Blitzers and Throwers, no agility skills for them.
Looking at your Skill list, you seriously need more Guard. It's the best Strenght skill out there. And I wouldn't take Block AND Wrestle on the same player, for me it's either or.
I would do the following:
2x Blitzer: Guard, Mighty Blow, Stand Firm, Double: Dodge
2x Blitzer: Mighty Blow, Tackle, Guard, Double: Dodge
4x Catcher: Block, Sidestep, Fend, Double: Normal skill instead
1x Lineman: Kick, Block
3x Lineman: Wrestle, Strip Ball (you don't need Strip Ball 3 times, give it to the first of them hitting 16 SPP's)
other Lineman: Block, Dauntless/Pro/Tackle (choose what you need the most)
Double on a Lineman: Always Guard
1x Thower: Accurate, Kick-off Return, Block (Double: Strong Arm)
1x Thrower: Block, Nerves of Steel (Double: Dodge)
Take nearly every stat increase you can get. ST+1 or AG+1 is a no brainer for every player on the human team. +1 AV or +1 MA depends on your play style.

Since you have Skaven and Skinks to worry about, you may want to consider giving one of your catchers Sprint and Sure Feet. That extra GFI will make all the difference when trying to catch or outpace enemy runners.

Re: Starting LRB5 League - Humans!
Wrestle won't help you against those teams. If there were Dwarves and Norse in the league, then I'd agree with you. But not against these teams. Tackle will help against the Gutter Runners and Ghouls but take tackle on your linemen for now.mlindsay2706 wrote:Well we're starting an open league in my club, LRB5 and im taking humans.

You can't take leader on linemen without doubles and you can't take dodge on blitzers and throwers.
I'd go...
Blitzers- Guard, MB
Linemen- Tackle x2, Kicks, Block, Dauntless
Catchers-Block, Sidestep (or Fend), Strip Ball x1, Tackle x1
Throwers- Accurate, Sure Hands, Kick Off Return x1, Block x1

The only thing I can think to add is that I think FF2 and 10k in the bank is better than 30k banked.
You're still very likely to get an apoth after the first game (at worst 50:50 but often much better odds) and will have some chance on Gate & FAME measures straight off the bat.
Oh and I'd prefer to start with two throwers and one catcher but that depends on the length of your league (long:thrower).

the league will be long. we dont have a set amount of games, we're just gonna play and play etc... when we can. it should be for quite a while

I agree with that. You can't buy FF later so it's better to get it while you can. I would even buy 3 FF and bank none of it. You'll probably get +1 Fame that way and get a bonus +10k at the end of the match.PubBowler wrote:The only thing I can think to add is that I think FF2 and 10k in the bank is better than 30k banked.

Or instead of FF upgrade a lino to a 2nd Thrower. That way you start with 2 SH guys, and will be developing an extra candidate for the starting QB position. It also gives you a two-pronged attack on defense.
Here's what I'd do:
Blitzers: Get 2 with Guard and 2 with Tackle as fast as possible. Avoid Wrestle. Tackle guys should go Mighty Blow next and then Pro or Piling On, and Guard guys should go for Stand Firm. Doubles = Dodge or Side Step (see below), 10 = +MA unless he has Guard (then +AV), always take +AG or ST; +AG gets followed by Pro. Tackle and Guard come at a premium; your opponents have lots of Dodge and you can beat them all on S access once you've got an Ogre. If you're not going to get an Ogre, get a Dauntless Blitzer (ugh), or a Block/Dauntless Lineman.
Catchers: Two guys with Side Step is just all kinds of awesome. It's better if they're ST3, but c'est la vie. Block first, maybe, at least for one of them. Then whenever a Block guy goes up and gets Side Step the next rookie or Catcher with Block should get it next.
Throwers: Two. Gotta have 'em. You've got enough re-rolls you don't need Leader, so you can afford to build bona fide defensive and offensive Throwers. If the first to improve gets a skill, give him Accurate and he becomes your O-guy, getting Kick-Off Return next (Strong Arm on doubles), and then Block at 31. If he gets doubles (Dodge), or a +stat, make him your D-guy (getting Block next except on +AG, which encourages one to skip Block in favor of Accurate-NoS). Otherwise, your D-Thrower can go Block-Accurate-Nerves of Steel.
Linemen: One gets Kick, one gets Wrestle, the rest get Block. Second skill could be Tackle or Dauntless. If you improve a Lineman or even a Blitzer early on with a normal skill, you might go Strip Ball, then Block later, but it loses its effectiveness after your opponents have played several games (it is disproportionately effective against the teams you mentioned). Doubles can be Dodge or Guard; on the second roll, you'll find Side-Step to be fun.
Get an Ogre! Ogres are the best big guys with a bullet! Ogres rule, and would be a reason to play a Human team even if the positionals didn't rock and come in huge numbers!!!

Pishaw! Snow Trolls are by FAR the best big guys. Beast of Nurgle is second in my book since it has 9 armor and Tentacles, MB, Regen, and Nurgle's Rot.mattgslater wrote: Get an Ogre! Ok, once more without the superlatives.
Ogres are pretty good as Big Guys go and add a lot of depth to the team, with very little drawback.
