LRB5 Ogre Team
A few friends and Myself were discussing just how viable the LRB5 Ogre Team Last night. Know one in our League has dared to Play it with the New Snotling Nerf. We could not figure why the team was changed from the Goblins to Snotlings, and then also dropping 1/2 the Ogre slots on the roster. As it was before it was not over powered, and was at least semi competitive to use in a league, about as much as goblins/halflings are anyway. Now it just seems completely un playable.
Any thoughts on what sort of tactics one could use to actually even hope to win a single game with this team? Were they Play tested at all?

Short answer: Ogers were redesigned to be a pure 'fun' team. As you said, they were nearly competitive with Goblins. Those in charge of Blood Bowl didn't like this, and therefore changed them.
Tactics: Try to pick up the ball with a Snotling and hand-off to an Oger. 8 round Oger pocket into the Endzone. Meanwhile, make as many casualities.

The problem however is with only 6 Ogres as a max roster it seems quit limited. The snotlings being 3 Die Block targets will also empower you opponent to destroy your team after one game...
I don't have a problem with a pure fluff team for enjoyable purposes but it seems they went to far. I don't even see how the team could be enjoyable now. I thought the Goblin Version was the Enjoyable fluff team that was not really going to win much as it was.
The tactic sounds fair enough, until your on Defense. I'm not sure how your supposed to stop anyone from scoring with a team of snotlings. Any Ideas?
Thanks.

I don't think you're supposed to be able to stop anyone on defense with this team unless you were able to 1) receive first, 2) pound the opposition completely into dust while on offense, 3) score and 4) make it impossible for your opponent to field a full squad while on offense. You might as well just pull all the ogres on the line and hope for the best.omnimutant wrote:The problem however is with only 6 Ogres as a max roster it seems quit limited. I would never play with this team, absent a random one off match after downing the better part of a bottle of bourbon. They are a complete non-factor in Blood Bowl.

I agree and thats the Big problem. I think they were just fine before, and many people I talk to agree. It added yet one more choice for people who are darring to try it, to the game. Now it's just a silly Idea, that non-experienced coaches might waste their money on, only to be disheartened when their team is destroyed after game 1. I'd love for them to be restored to Pre-LRB5 status. Were they some how Broken in someones mind? I just don't understand the change I guess. Galak? They are a complete non-factor in Blood Bowl.

The first 2 Ogres with skills need Break Tackle. One for each side of the pitch. Diving Tackle for every Snotling that lives long enough to get a skill. Then you've got a slight chance at defense.

I had a lot of success with my ogres in League play... I played 45 games and ended with a 48% (ish) win percentage...
It isn't a trophy team but with a little luck it could be!
The strategy is that the Ogres are gold and the snotlings are poo...
Keep that in mind and you'll do fine. Get skills that allow you to re-roll because you will spend a lot of RRs on bone-head (With only 6 ogres, you can't afford to lose any to BH)
Skills like Sure Hands, Leader, Pro become better than Block for some guys. make an Ogre Runner if you can... a +ag is just magic if your lucky enough! With Sure hands (if you get doubles) you can resist Strip ball and get the ball!
If you take Block, get Pile On and be a Blitzer... Or take Multiple Block and be a lineman. With Snots you want Sure feet and then jump up. (If you trip your head may fall off... and with so little MA you need as much as you can get)

Hehe
I played one game against Chaos (Claws abound) and failed all my bone head rolls... on the first turn... when I received... and I used a re-roll
ALL OF THEM!
Now, play any team long enough and you will roll 7 ones in a row... but against all that claw/MB/Pile-on...
Weee, that just sucked...

The 'old' ogre team was problematic for several reasons.omnimutant wrote:I agree and thats the Big problem. I think they were just fine before, and many people I talk to agree. 1) it was a better goblin team than the the actual goblin team..why play goblins with a few trolls when you could play goblins with lots of ogres.
2) as the team developed, you eventually got to field a team of 11 ogres and no goblins...and those 11 ogres could be hard to stop.
We have a Vampire team with max 6 vampires
We have a Chaos Dwarf team with max 6 chaos dwarves
Having 'only' 6 ogres on an ogre team is not un-precedented.
If you left the goblins on the team with only 6 ogres, then you'd still have the problem of the Ogre team being a better goblin team than the goblin team. Snotlings have a 'history' both in Blood Bowl and in the related (but not exactly the same) Warhammer Fantasy Battles. Bringing them back was seen as a good thing and replacing the goblins on the Ogre team with snotlings seemed like the logical choice.
The Ogre team is designed to be a 3rd teir team (like the goblins and the halflings). The LRB4 version of the Ogre team was more of a teir 2 team, while the LRB5 version is firmly in the 3rd teir.
Snotlings are bad, but they aren't quite useless and with care, can be effective in their rolls. (hint: divign tackle is not a bad skill on a snotling)

Haven't tried diving tackle on a snot - surely if a snot is standing next to an opposition player, they are not long for this world? Sure feet tends to be my skill of choice for them.

Snots usually come up to assist Ogres to get 3-die blocks. Frequently their targets when they get up want to dodge away from the Ogre rather than pound the Snot. Snots can swarm around a ball on the pitch or a ball carrier. Someone will want to dodge in to pick up the ball or dodge out to get away from them. You can even use Snots to cage around your ballcarrier to prevent a blitz from dodging in. You can't have enough Diving Tackle Snotlings.sann0638 wrote:Haven't tried diving tackle on a snot - surely if a snot is standing next to an opposition player, they are not long for this world?
Personally, I'd like to see 0-2 Goblins added to the Ogre roster. Its a little boost that would provide some relief.
