Orc Inducements: Ripper or Varag?

Just started a Orc team and will be facing a couple of developed Human and Dark Elf teams over the next week or so. I should have enough inducements for either Ripper or Varag and I wasn't sure which to go for.

My team 4 BOBs, 4 Blitzers, Thrower (Dodge) and 2 Goblins, 3 Rerolls, Apoth FF3.

I am edging towards Varag, bit more reliable (Block) and mobile (MA6) but if anyone has an opinion (and reasoning) I'd like to hear it.

Are you going to cage or not? if you want an 8 tun gring then ripper would be my choice, but if you're after a more mobile game then Varag.

I'd only use Ripper if I your opponents were stronger (multiple ST4+ and lots of Guard) than you. Most probably this will not be the case against Humans and Dark Elves. Therefore, the quicker and more reliable Varag sounds like the better option.

However, if you are up against many Blodgers, do consider taking the Chainsaw-star Ugroth :smoking: - I have induced him several times with my Orcs and have never regretted it. Stall, go after the Blodgers with him and use him to foul (with +3 on the armor roll :D ) before your drive is over (he'll get sent off anyway). Maybe even consider a Bribe to keep him also for the second half. Another nice thing about Ugroth is that if your opponent panics, he'll try everything to take Ugroth out, taking lots of pressure from your ballcarrier.

Varag is the way to go IMO. Having a star with Loner means counting on him to work without rerolls. Having Block gives me more confidence that he can do that. Against Humans and Dark Elves, ST4 is enough, especially with the rest of the Black Orcs on the team. ST6 is nice but not necessary.

Varag is also more versatile, with more MA and AG.

Varag is better except against teams with stacks of Guard or High ST Players.

As it's humans and dark elves you're talking about take Varag.

Nothing levels the playing field quite like hacking the limbs off an established team's uber-star player. :wink: "What's that? You have Dodge, Block, ST4/AG4 and a ton of other upgrades?" *BRRRRM-rm-rm-rm-rm-rm-rm* "Aw, and now he's troll food. Darn."

Still, if Ugroth isn't your idea of a good team, Varag would definitely be the way to go.

But Ugroth is way more fun. As Tante suggested, stall and use him to foul. With AV9, he's pretty resilient to kick-backs and falling on his own chainsaw. If you get a bribe you can keep him on the pitch longer. And with the amount of inducements that you are talking about, you could get 2 bribes.

The trick with chainsaws is to always keep him in a position where he cannot be blitzed. AV9 is tough, but don't push it. And he's not of much use on his back either.

But then again, he could just kill himself on his first turn

But if you want to win, I'd go with Varag. :)

Pretty resistant? Only compared to the other chainsaws, he's still only AV6.

Yes, that's what I ment. He has a better chance of surviving than most other chainsaws. You still don't want him to fall too often though.
