My next Dark elf purchase

Post by grampyseer »

Hi all,
Here's my team thus far. I'm 6 games in and planning my next purchase.
1 runner
1 assassin
2 blitzers
1 witch elf
9 lineman
2 re rolls

FF7

With 2 spots left, I'm not sure what to do.
Extra witch elf? and blitzer
assassin and blitzer
2 blitzers?

Any ideas out there?

I agree. You have enough players already. Or you could just save your money and replace your lineelves as they get maimed or killed with positionals. Start with another runner though.

I agree about the re-roll, but I think that once you're looking to replace/add a player, you should get a Witch. You have a nice little bench as-is, and Witch Elves really shine when they have a back-up or can be used in two-of combos. They're not great players for their price, but at the point where you've already got 14 guys, relative cost-effectiveness of a rookie is less important than the player's starting ability level, which Witch Elves have in droves.

Add the blitzer. They aren't as sexy as the witch, but you have too much AV 7 as it is. I would get the third blitzer, then the Witch, then a 4th blitzer.

As far as I'm concerned, a Dark Elf team has a maximized chance to win if it loads up on Blitzers, Witch Elves, and re-rolls (at least 3.) Assasins and Runners are too fragile and limited, and should only be added in when the team is reasonably developed or when the mix of the league is definitely on the "soft" side.

Thanks for the replies thus far.

I had thought to add the re-roll...soon. I'm just always tempted to flush out the bench a bit first.

So no takers on a second assassin? My biggest critique of them is the AV 7, and I would agree that I don't want too much AV 7.

Our league is fairly well mixed.
Dark elf
Skaven
Dwarf
Wood elf
Chaos
Human
Lizardmen

At present, I'm also the league casualty leader.

You have 14 players - you don´t need more right now. You need that 3rd reroll. Bonus is, it keeps your TV down a bit.

After that I would add more blitzers.

Wow – You’ve certainly taken Delves in a #couch# different direction.

I suppose its to late to say that the Blitzes and Witch Elves are their best players and should be the 1st names on the team sheet. You are were you are so let’s deal with that…

Right now you have enough players so get them re-roles. As your players retire replace with Blitzers 1st and the 2nd Witch afterwards.

I wouldn’t get another Assassin. They are very situational – a quick word though. Their Shadowing Skill is actually their best skill. Remember to use it as well as Stab.

Good Luck with them though. The most rewarding team IMO – I’m about to take my Delves into the play-offs.

I forgot Delves can get 4 blitzers. I would definitely take them before another runner (my original suggestion). In fact, with the league like it is, you could do very well with that other assassin. You can shadow all those dodging elves, rats, human catchers, and skinks. And with their low AV, stab is very effective.

But by the time you buy a RR and 2 Blitzers, your league will probably be over anyway, so you'll probably not get to the point of deciding on a 2nd assassin.

What's a *couch* direction? Are you implying that my team is lazy? A bunch of couch potatoes?
LoL

Do you Dark elf players out there find that 3 reserves is a deep enough bench?

If so, I think I'll go with the re-roll first, then add a witch and blitzer.

I think he meant *cough* ...

With the opponents in your league, 14 ist definitely a deep enough bench. More players on your roster inflate your TV and you don´t even have them on the field for the first kickoff. All they are going to accomplish is giving your opponent nice inducements for free.

LOL I Did indeed mean Cough

It was supposed to be a subtle/meek way of saying that I don't think you have the best DE team available.

4 Blitzers and 2 Witches are the No.1 Priority.
Followed by Re-Rolls and then 1 Runner and 1 Assasain.

The overall thinking here is that the majority of AV8 will allow your players to stay alive long enough to gain skills.

14 players is the perfect amount for DE's.

I wouldn't have more than 1 Assassain but 2 runners is personal choice.

Check out this thread for my learning experience/discussion on Dark Elves. I have just finished the regular season with a 15-4-2 record.

With the league that you are in though, a bench of 13 is probably enough. You'll get the odd bad games against Dwarves, and maybe Chaos if they are developped, and depending on how they are being developped.

But yes, generally, keep you bench at about 13-14. You need to max-out on the Blitzers and Witches, which means retiring injured linos, and even injured runner and assassin, to get those players, if you have the money.

Thanks for the tips.

I definetely think I'll be retiring linesman, to allow the last 3 positionals.

Cheers

Yep, that's the way to go. 1 Assassin is plenty, but you definitely want all the blitzers and witches you can get.

And a team size of 14 is pretty close to optimal, unless you play in a particularly violent league.
