Waterbowl Weekender 2008 - Where to stay?

Post by Leipziger »

NB: There are no Premier League matches in Manchester this weekend, but it is the weekend of the 4th round of the FA Cup. Obviously, this means City will be out ;), but United might be playing at home.

This list will enlarge, but a good place to start your search for accommodation for the 'Waterbowl Weekender' is here:

'The Crown & Anchor', 41 Hilton Street, Manchester, M1 2EE. Tel - 0161 228 1142

Prices: £25 single
£40 twin
£50 triple

- these are last year's prices. Need to phone and check this year's rates.

The price includes breakfast.

The pub is not as close to this year's venue as it is to FB3. That said, it is still a viable option. The CTF building is only about 15/20 mins on the bus (depends on traffic). Any bus numbered 140+ or 40+ will get you there. Ask for a ticket to the university (Magic Bus or Finglands will be cheapest). Grafton Street is only a short walk from the bus stop (5 mins or so). Alternately, you could walk it in around 30-40 mins (depending on hang-over...)

It is also within very easy walking distance of manchester piccadilly train station.

This venue has housed a number of Waterbowlers over the last three years.

Other places worth checking out are:

Victoria Park Hotel,
4 Park Crescent,
Victoria Park,
Manchester,
M14 5RE

Prices: £32.00 Single, Double £42.00, Triple £60.00, Quad £75.00
Rates include breakfast. 20 mins or so walk from venue. (Not very far in taxi or bus). Bus route about a minute's walk from here.

This venue is next door to the venue! Literally, 1 minutes walk from the CTF building. However, the reviews that Joe found are pretty bad. (see post below). Prices around £27.50 a night.

Manchester

Price: £18.95. This venue is a bit of a hike from the venue.

You might want to check out these reviews first!  http://www.travel-library.com/hotels/eu ... hotel.html

On the other hand :o :
Hotel Facilities: Bar, 24-Hour Front Desk, Heating, Luggage Storage, Gay Friendly.
Why does that need to be stated? :o

Cool. The wet bed bit comes from one of the reviews of the place. The place sounds a bit of dive but Angela from Liverpool gives it 10 out of 10 and it's next door tothe venue! It works out at £21.50 each with breakfast so I am not surprised it's not up to much :-? I booked a room if you want the other bed(twin room) PM me your email address and I'll send you the room booking :smoking:

I will be booking a double room for two nights in the Victoria Park hotel in a weeks time (30th Jan).

If someone else wants to save a bit of money, they are more than welcome to take a triple room with me and Peter Jones. PM me before this date, and we'll sort something out.

Surely 'The Grafton Hotel' should be the officail hotel.

On a different note how would be best to travel by Car or Train? I'm coming from preston.

If you haven't got anywhere sorted yet I recommend doing it quick sharp! Man Utd will be battering Arsenal off the park at OT on either the Saturday or Sunday  so expect some Gooners to be looking for places to stay....

[UPDATE]: Man U play the Ar$e on Saturday evening, 5:15pm kick off. Which means I'm going to sod off and watch it and leave you to it during Game 3 ;-)

Still means that you should get your hotels booked quick smart!!
