We play in a 4 person, perpetual nine game league with a two game playoff.
I play CD. There is an Orc, Skaven and an elf team.
It is good fun. However I can't beat the Orcs.
I had an interesting idea, and I wanted some advice on it because its strange.
The playoffs are close and so I have stocked up on additional hobgoblins.
His Black orcs with block and guard and troll with guard tend to flatten my line on the first turn. My dwarves are good but just not strong enough to withstand the onslaught. The LOS tends to buckle and the orcs roll forward.
I thought about sacrificing my three new rookie hobgoblins on the LOS and have my skilled dwarves and bull centaurs hanging back, ready to attack the cage when it advances. At least I can hit it on my terms.
I have a fair bit of MB, Guard and Stand firm on the dwarves. My hobgoblins with Wrestle I might put in reserve. My BCs have block and break tackle, one will soon have frenzy. I also have a minotaur with pile on (yes, I know that was a dumb choice but I was new and he got my first MVP many moons ago) I will probably put him in reserve.
Any thoughts?

How many players are you currently placing on the LOS? Its almost always best to restrict yourself to 3 players.... generally its best to have the three least skilled dorfs on the line because they wont take much in the way of injuries.

Normally three guys on the line.
I have tried having my ones with stand firm and guard.
Also tried my killy ones with MB, +1Str, Guard etc.
I normally come off ok with regards to injuries but I also tend to end up lying down.
That tends to leave three dwarves, 2 BCs and two hobgoblins to stop the cage.
I thought it might be good to sacrifice three hobgoblins for a chance to attack the cage with 8 hard guys.
I would still have more hobgoblins left for my offense even if they died.

I'd certainly give it a go-if what you're doing isn't working then try something else! Also, if it doesn't work, they are only rookies and at 40k each aren't too difficult to replace.
Not sure how your opo playes, whether he drives up the middle, or drives up a widezone, but if it's to the side, once your CDs are on their backs, it will take them a while to get back into the game, if they ever do. The hobos will be able to dodge easier and then move further should they ever get up from the 1st hit....

I'd be leery of putting a strength 3, av7, no skills player on the LOS against a bash-heavy team.
I think you'd just find yourself down on the casualty count.
Personally, I tend to put 3 CD on the LOS and accept the fact that they probably need to stand up on my first turn, but are unlikely to be removed from play.
I play the rest of my team a bit deeper, to give me some space to react.
Let us know how it plays out.
