Skaven Tourney Team and Skills
Ok I want to take Skaven for a Tourney (LRB 5) on the weekend. It is TR 110 and one normal Skill for one player before every match.
Any suggestions on the tem and what skills to which player?
I was thinking:
1 Rat Oger
2 Blitzer
3 Gutter Runner
5 Linerats
1 Thrower
3 RR
1 AC
1 CL
Does that seem any good and what skills to give out?

Hi Willi,
At TR110, I'd go with the line up that you have chosen, pretty much. As for skills, I don't know about the order but I'd probably look to have:
2 x blodging gutter runners
1 x strip ball gutter runner
Rogre with guard/multi block
2 x guard blitzer of if you use your thrower then maybe 1 blitzer with guard and accurate on your thrower.
Which tournament are you going to?
Cheers

I think this will be B7 - Frank and Baerbels Tournament.
I would change the Lieup a bit.
Get rid of the thrower AC and CL. Take a GR and 1 FF instead. There is no need for a thrower, when you have 4 GR.
Skills (in no order)
Linerat Kick
GR Strip Ball
GR Sidestep
Storm Vermin Guard (or Tackle)

I can't see any excuse at TR 110 to NOT have 4 GR...
4GR 320
2SV 180
1RO 160
2TH 140
3LI 150
2RR 120
3 FF/CL/AC
Leader on Thrower, Guard on both SV, Leap on GR, Block on GRs for rest.

I would not want to waste a skill (leader) on a thrower.
Mainly because its one game less, with strip ball, or kick. If I could give all skills from the start, this would be a viable roster.

I think I might go with wesleytj's suggested roster. Throwers are a great buy. They are linerats with two useful offensive skills for only 20K more. With them in your backfield you can have all your Gutter Runners near the LOS for easy 2 turn touchdowns.
I would suggest though that the skill order is:
Linerat - Kick - helpful for scoring when on defense
Thrower - Leader - with only 2 re-rolls, an obvious choice
Rat Ogre - Break Tackle - making him a very, very good cage breaker
Linerat - Block - converting roadkill into a positional
Linerat - Block
Linerat - Block
...
The Gutter Runners are great players without upgrades and giving them Block might be a waste as you are only likely to use it defensively and only if you are blocked by a player with Block.

I have a similar dilemma for an upcoming tournament. I haven't too much experience with Skaven so any advice appreciated.
It's a six game 110 tourney with a skill awarded after the first game and each subsequent game for a total of five skills. One skill per player and 'normal' skills only.
I was thinking of 1 Rat Ogre, 2 Blitzers, 5 Linemen, 4 Gutter Runners, 3 Re-Rolls and 1 FF.
My skill picks would be Lineman = Kick, GR = Strip Ball, RO = Stand Firm, Blitzer = Guard and Blitzer = Guard
However, I was thinking of ditching the Rat Ogre in favour of a Thrower and an extra Re-Roll as favoured by some coaches. In which case my skill picks would be Thrower=Kick, GR=Strip Ball, Blitzer=Guard, Blitzer=Guard and GR=Block
Any thoughts or advice?

IMO this is the optimal roster at 110 TV.duttydave wrote: I was thinking of 1 Rat Ogre, 2 Blitzers, 5 Linemen, 4 Gutter Runners, 3 Re-Rolls and 1 FF.
I like your first 2 picks (in fact, they're vital) but I wouldn't "waste" a skill on the Rat Ogre, unless you can get a double and give him block (too good to pass up upon). Remember that the RO is mainly there as a distraction for other teams to force them to play differently. Or to smash elves. I still think the Rat Ogre is a must-have though as he gives you a far better defence (which is hit or miss with skaven anyway). My skill picks would be Lineman = Kick, GR = Strip Ball, RO = Stand Firm, Blitzer = Guard and Blitzer = Guard
Other skills you might need: Wrestle and Block on the Runners and Block on the Linerats. Although Guard on the vermin is nice as well of course.
edit: Wow, looking through this thread I see a lot of people skipping the Strip Ball on a runner!

Thanks for that.
I accept that, with only 5 skills, it may not be wise to skill up the RO.
How about:
1. Lineman = Kick
2. GR = Strip Ball
3. GR = Block
4. Blitzer = Guard
5. GR = Wrestle
On offence I was thinking of the standard Skaven play of getting a couple of Runners into scoring position and using Hand Off and Pass for quick scores.
On defence, the plan is to kick deep and pressurise the ball carrier. The Strip Baller will dodge into Cages if necessary to throw a 1/2 Dice Block on the ball carrier.
On both do you place just the RO and two Linemen on the LOS? or place three Linemen and keep the RO back a couple of squares?

I've never bothered with Strip Ball on the runners, I found Guard on the 2 SV and Block on 3 of the GR gave me the best results. I also found my tourney recorded improved significantly when I dropped the RO.

Never place the RO on the LoS when kicking. Keep him a few squares back and make sure he can't be pinned by some useless lino at turn 1. Then try to move or blitz him to where the action is happening and keep a linerat near to protect him. He is strong but fragile.

I think Wrestle Runners might be better than Strip Ball as many teams will have a Block, Sure Hands ball carrier.
I have also seen many skaven teams take Leader on a thrower and use the money saved to get a 13th man.

Strip Ball on a GR is a must-have, I agree with Tuern there. Also cool is dauntless or horns (if you can pick a double)
My standard skill on the rat ogre is Juggernaut, which makes him far more reliable to blitz.
Guard on the SV is the best choice.
