General tournament question: What are the unwritten rules?

Post by Angeblich »

Going to attend my first tournament this year and am thinking about if there are unwritten rules to get along well with players.

For example fouling. In a resurrection type, I suppose noone will hate you for fouling turn 16, right?

What about stalling?

What about handshaking, having your roster double or that kind of things?

I want to know everything! Wanna be a good NAF-member...

Hi Angeblich. The number of roster copies required can differ according ot the tournament, so just check the rule pack.

Re: stalling and fouling. Depends on who you play, really. Some people really can't take being stalled on, but it is a legitimate tactic, so if it is the difference between you getting points and losing them, then stall away. Fouling-wise, as you point out, it is resurrection, so fouling on turn 16 shouldn't really matter (and if fouls count towards most CAS, then it may well be worth doing!).

I think the only things really that you need to do are:

- Relax and enjoy yourself!

- Decide with your opponent BEFORE you start your game whether you are playing IP and also what constitutes a cocked dice (saves confusion).

- Be willing to share your dice

Hope your first tourny goes well. Do you know where you will make your debut?

Make sure you AND you opponent enjoy the game, so dont do anything to your opponent that you dont want to happen to yourself I guess.

And try at least to have a painted team, and make sure your opponent understands what figure is what. So if possible, dont use proxies.

Enjoy the tournament :D, buy your opponent a drink if you won ! :smoking:

1) Don't show your roster to your opponent.
2) Shout 1 or skulls just before your opponent rolls dice - every single time
3) When the do roll a 1 or skulls stand up and shout "yeah"
4) If you opponent does not roll a 1 or skulls mutter about imbalanced dice
5) Foreigners are all idiots. Insult them liberally for being stupid.
6) If your opponent scores go out for a sulk for 20 mins.
7) Accuse them of slow play.
8) Give yourself an extra team reroll, you deserve it.
9) Do not allow your opponent to see your dice rolls. Every injury roll you make is a 10. If they don't believe you they must be a foreigner (see #5)
10) If you lose or draw complain loudly about how you were dice raped.
11) If you win tell everyone how badly your opponent sucked. They were probably a stupid foreigner (see #5).
12) When you don't win the tournmanent have a whinge about how the rules were biased against your team, or in the unlikely eventually that someone else won with your team about how you chose not to abuse the system.
13) The NAF sucks. Only losers sign up for the NAF
14) Deliberately take a team that isn't WYSIWYG

;)

This tips depends a lot. Playing in spain means you need to scream more than your opponent. Do it everywhere else...and you will be an a**hole.

Just go to the tourney and enjoy!! And...do whatever you see ;)

At the GT last year, one of my opponents got bored towards the end of the game and started talking to a friend who'd already finished. He also "placed" a ball for a new kick-off by chucking it into my half of the pitch saying "that'll do".

Don't do those...

Anyone that's not a halfling then.

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.
