Rat linemen doubles?
Hey,
Rolled a double-2 on my skaven lino in a rather killy league. Is guard really my only sensible choice?
I'm actually considering MB, Claw, Horns, Guard and (dodge).. As well as skipping the dbl and taking wrestle.
Other skills in the team are:
Lineman Kick
Lineman -MA
Runner +MA
Runner Block
3RR, 14 players, full positions, barring 1 thrower & Rat ogre.

uh... 8/9 to turn a 1d block into a 2d block, plus 1/9 to skull (or equivalent). That's roughly a 1/3 reduction in the chance of skulling: you'd be better off giving this guy Block, if you're just trying to get clear assists.Digger Goreman wrote:Agreed on dodge... with his mobility it will be like guard....
That's not a knock on Dodge. Just a statement that AG3/Dodge is a poor substitute for Guard when it comes to arranging assists.

I really don't see the point of Dodge on a rookie linerat. What would his function in the team be? He won't be handling the ball for sure (although you will have to try and skill him up quickly again with Dodge) and what about defence? Dodge would mostly help in keeping the rat alive and, frankly, that's not what linerats are for. He'd only become useful when he gets to his second skill, which might never happen. Skaven teams have only three players with S access and one of them is unfortunately the Rat Ogre. That S access has to both provide Guard and the killers for the team.
Either Claw, MB or Guard, depending on the blitzers. Claw very dependent on the rest of the teams in the league, although if it's killy, then I assume a lot of AV9. I can only see the use for Dodge if the rat had either +AG or +ST.
You're rolling enough dodges with AG4 to bother with AG3 dodges.

Guard (can't have too much of it and you don't have a lot of natural Guard carriers.
Dodge (takes some Tackle heat off the Runners, keeps him onhis feet and makes the mostof MA7)
I would not take Horns, your go to Blitzer needs to be able to cause damage or chain pushs and without rolling other doubles, this lino is going to struggle in both roles.

I think this makes a lot of sense. Just Horns is not enough as he would need other skills, either added mobility or hittiness, to make good use of them. They might come in handy in offence for making an opening in the defence line against ST teams, but just for that role they're still a waste and with Guard you can probably get that ST4 blitz off anyway.PubBowler wrote:I would not take Horns, your go to Blitzer needs to be able to cause damage or chain pushs and without rolling other doubles, this lino is going to struggle in both roles.

So 4 votes guard, 4 votes dodge.
0 votes Claw, 0 votes MB, 0 votes horns?
This would make me take guard in a heartbeat.. I'm rolling enough dice as it is.. And I prefer wrestle over dodge for mobility & survivability of the rat-liners.
I'm making this query now as I'm likely to go all out either way.. Eg, all the further doubles will be the same for the linemen.
I still see some value in MB, Horns, Claw though:
MB combines well with Block, Tackle, Daunts Claw later
Claw the same, and I'm not guaranteed to ever roll blitzer doubles.
Horns with Wrestle & any skill really makes him a S4 blitzer (one less assist), and one less guy to dodge away from S4 players (1 assist + Horns blitz to freedom). Needs wrestle to work though. I'm probably always playing with less players than my oppo, so I see a lot of value in that +1 str for blitzes. The downside is, I don't get block/wrestle on the blitzes until I reach 16 spps.
The only downsides with guard are: A) not likely to reach 16 spp so he'll be target #1 every game B) low AG so hard to get him where he's "needed".

in a bash heavy league i'm expecting some dorfs and c'd's therefore lots of blackle so dodge is negated.besters wrote:The only problem I see with Guard is:
AV7 + Guard = Target
Life expectancy is likely to be short.
With the dodge suggestion I felt that it took some pressure off the TRR's giving the team potentially extra manoeuvrability.

To some extent, there wil be teams without tackle and dorf's and c'd's don't have tackle throughout the team. If there was a perfect choice this thread wouldn't have lasted so long.rodders wrote:in a bash heavy league i'm expecting some dorfs and c'd's therefore lots of blackle so dodge is negated.besters wrote:The only problem I see with Guard is:

Hope your better half is coping well.
