Gobbos for Saturday's Competition

Post by furstyferret »

Hi all, I'm thinking of running my newly acquired Goblin team in a competition on Saturday so was hoping for advice on the team. I'm still a novice at the game overall and have only played one game as Gobbos so this is just for shiggles. :orc:

The competition is 1.1M using LRB5

The team:

2 Trolls
9 Gobbos
1 Looney
Nobbla Blackward
Fungus the Loon
3 RR
1 AC
1 C
1 Bribe

I also need to pick 2 normal and 1 double skill. Any thoughts?

As I'll be there to defend my title, I wouldn't trust anything I say!
But just in case...

I'm not wild about a LRB5 bribe when your secret weapons are so vulnerable to harm and relatively cheap.

I am wild about the rostered fanatic.
I'm also keen on the Bomber, if you use your double and get Hail Mary Pass.

You've gone with a non-Ripper roster which may be a better idea if you're relatively inexperienced.
He gives you a non Really-Stupid, most likely 3 Dice Blitz as well as a better TTM player and safer puhcbag for the LOS.

A Ripper roster could look like:

220 2 Trolls
270 Ripper
40 Rostered Looney
40 Rostered Bomber
320 8 Goblins
180 3 rerolls
30 Staff

Hail Mary Pass on the Bomber or lose him.
Less crazy but might be easier to use.

Your call.

Cheers for the reply. I never expected one from someone else going on Saturday tbh. :P

I won't be taking Ripper because I've only just bought the team and don't have that model, nor a bomber.

Just out of interest...what are the painting requirements for this tourny? I will only manage to get my Gobbos undercoated by then and will have to use Dark Elves if there is any restrictions (not that many of them are painted either).

I think the Ripper roster is too full on. Only 11 non-SW players. LRB5 is a sgame, 50K bribes really help Goblins, but at 100K they aren't worth it.

I think the rostered Fanatic is a must. Being able to use rerolls is great (not all your blocks will be 3D).

I might go:

2 Trolls
11 Goblins
Looney
Fanatic
Fungus
4 Rerolls
1 staff

This gives you enough depth to cope with losing players, and enough ST to dish it out.

For skills, I'd go

Block - Troll
Dodge - Chainsaw
Mighty Blow - Fanatic or Strong Arm - Troll

With the plan being to maximise the damage your weapons do and hope its enough to win the game.

If this is the FA Cup run by Hoomin, its LRB6. In which case I might swap a Goblin and the spare 10K for a Bribe. That or a reroll, but I think 4 is really valuable for a Goblin team.

I quite like that team actually, its just as hitty and probably better to have the re-rolls. Need to see if anyone has a spare Fungus model kicking about :D The competition is the Far Albion Cup in Arberdeen.

It's a GW organised event and although Hoomin was pushing for LRB6 I don't think it's happening (despite his tournie posting thread) as LRB6 has not yet been hosted on the GW website.

Okay, think I've got a team sorted...

2 Trolls (One with Block, one with Guard)
11 Goblins
Fanatic
Looney (Dodge)
Nobbla Blackwart
4 RRs
1 FF
1 AC
1 CL

I can't see much of an improvement on that (especially with the star players I own)
