Slann Catcher Development

Post by air139 »

I have 2 Slann catchers that leveled up and I'm at a loss as to what to take.

Catcher 7 2 5 7 Diving Catch, Leap, Very Long Legs, Pass, +1 AG
I rolled an 11. is there any reason at all for an AG6 Passer? I'm leaning towards sure hands as I treat this guy as my passer.
*EDIT* He got sure hands as ag 6 proved no better than ag 5 for any passing reasons

Rolled a normal skill. Dodge or Pass Block for this guy?

Discuss and debate?

AG6 passer? Hell yeah! That means he can make LONG passes on a 2, or pick up and QP from two zones on 2+/2+!

Normally, I'm not big on AG6. Congratulations on finding the exception! Hopefully he'll double again, and get either Safe Throw or Dump Off.

Won't he fumble a Long Pass on a 2? After die mods it's a 1...

Nope, AG6 is 1+ to succeed, and the rules only state that a 1 before modification is an autofail, so matt is right, Long Passes on a 2+

No, wait... I think I was wrong.

That's what I get for multitasking.

Gave him sure hands to conserve rerolls, maybe someday he will roll doubles again and get accurate

Regarding the second catcher, I'd say it depends on the metagame of your league. If the teams you play against end up passing a lot, I'd recommend Pass Block. Otherwise Dodge is much better since it offers you both protection against a stumble result and a free situational re-roll.

Borrrring!

Borrrring!

"Hello?"

<pause>

"It's for you. Says his name is Sure Hands."

I think this guy is better as an Ace back anyway; if Sure Hands was on the table, Catch is more useful for a non-retrieving passer.

I would have recommended dodge for both. Never regretted anything more than giving a slann catcher Pass Block, Catch and just seing my slow basher foes ignore passing and go for killing them instead (usually with 3die blocks & MB/PO). The catcher died or got sacked.. Cant remember.

The other thing is, AG6 is marginally better for pickups & dodges, but I'd probably still skip it because you took pass already. If you didnt have pass, but for instance guard then I'd consider +AG before dodge/block.

Dodge/Block/SS are the best 3 basic skills for slann catchers anyway. Sure hands is nice, but not for backfield pickups (where a reroll is just as fine), but for pickups in zones and for the occational strip ballist..

I can't think of any reason to pass up AG6 for any reason what so ever. Just imagine dodgning in to three tackle zones, picking the ball up and then leaping out.

Sheesh
No wonder you are doing so well in our league. TWO AG5 catchers? That's just sick.
Every time one of my player gets a stat boost, they die.
I'm sure our Slann teams will meet soon my friend.

I would have given them block and dodge as soon as possible

taking dodge over pass block is not even worth discussion imo ;]

like carnis said, what good is passblock on an injured player
