Glowworm, the Vault Dice don't seem to be broken, apart from the odd one I got with two 5's on it!! Which I'll remedy with some red paint before they get another outing!!

Do you think you only notice the rolls on a novelty dice because you see the symbol and it registers more?

Plus to the dice haters: play against Tritex then after you get sick of him launching his dice across the room come back to this thread.

Have to say I went to a dice cup years ago for three reasons.

1. Because I always seemed to roll them off the board. I was forever rumaging around the floor trying to find dice. Often in pubs with bad lighting and dodgy carpets. Not good.
2. I kept feeling awkward in the moments of "is it cocked or not".
3. Damaging models. I only ever did it once but I felt awful. I admit I probably roll dice from the hand too hard... just to make sure they do roll properly. But it crashed into a sculpted and well painted figure that got damaged....I felt really bad about it. So dice cup is here to stay for me.

Re the dice. I dont like using dice with logo's on myself but I dont mind my oppo using them. My only issue with them is that I like to see instantly what has been rolled... not sit there game 5 of a tournament having to think "now, the pig with a cigar is a one isnt it?" Despite my jokes about the Green Newquay ones, The yellow Poo, those new Welsh ones, Flamebowl red ones, blue Eurobowl ones from Italy and the legendary Black & Red Lutece ones.... none of them broken. It's just as Ben says, you notice the logo I think. But I enjoy pulling my opponents leg about it and blaming them if lose!!

I have to say I don't really like using a dice cup but purely because I like the feel of the dice I also tend to prefer heavier dice but am getting a dice cup purely because most other coaches in my league use them. As to novelty dice I have a few and do on occasion use them however I prefer not to and do get annoyed at times when people use multiple novelty dice that aren't consistent in if the symbol is a 1 or 6. I don't tend to use my favourite dice that much as people have said they find the numbers difficult to read in certain light but have yet to find a nice sized heavy set of rounded edged dice that feel the same to roll..... difficult to explain but despite the number of double 1's they roll they feel right.

Im sure there is an AP for this surly?

I have no problem with dice cups and no problem with dice other than the tube ones (the ones that look like a sausage), I find them a bit dodgy on the rolling side of things.

I have often used Flame Bowl dice to try and rescue a failing game. You know its getting desperate when they come out

Seriously though, people who insist on sharing dice get under my skin. ITS JUST A GAME! It really shouldn't matter that much (please remind me of this statement next time I'm sulking at the other end of the board to you  ) . Having said that, not being familiar with the symbols on novelty block dice is annoying.

Thought I'd chip in my 2 cents about these issues..

Dice Cups: I honestly don't know why, but during the tournaments I've been to I've seen less than a handful of people use them. I've heard some of the same complaints in this thread come from people in my area (people slamming cups, dice / cup making too much noise, takes too long) but honestly I love mine.

I bought one of the leather cups from ffstore - I used it in a preseason match for my league and used it during the Chaos Cup this weekend. It was GREAT. None of my opponents complained that I was using it.

Novelty Dice: Block Dice or custom D6?

Most of the tournaments I've attended have "games workshop or NAF block dice only" written into the rules. I don't personally care for the icons on most of the alternate block dice, I guess I'm just so used to the NAF icons that other dice leave me confused - my porn bowl dice aren't including in that though  those things are hilarious and epic.

Custom 6 sided dice are VERY common near me. Although I will only use / collect dice that have a custom symbol on the "6". I will generally toss out dice with symbols on the "1" because I know it will only cause confusion at some point. Custom dice are also a fun reminder of tournaments that I've been to. Seeing the symbol show up when I'm rolling armor gives me instant gratification to know it's a good roll!

Bottom Line: I'm pro dice cups for everyone because they eliminate cocked dice and I'm pro custom d6 because they are more fun to look at :D

I find Dice towers to be broken. I use almost exclusively Vegas craps dice, and in a plastic tower they do not tumble enough.

Now, in general, the Vegas dice appear to be an issue in BB, if rolled on paper (they like to be rolled on felt, where their sharp corners make them spin more).

I may try the (foam) cup in my next game.

I don't like people asking to use my dice for two reasons:

one it feels like they are calling me a cheat even though I have never met them before and therefore have given them no cause to think so (no matter how much I reason that this is not so).

and

secondly they almost always seem to roll better numbers than I do with them :pissed:

I've become a dice cup convert (having lived in Germany for a number of years where they are almost compulsory!) but I too am irritated by the slamming thing, especially when it's the guy three boards away whos moving the figures on our pitch like at the NAF Champs this year. I also don't like it when people drop them in to the cup and then just turn it over without shaking it, or have a squishy cup that they pick the dice up with , or when they knock the dice over as they lift it so you catch a fleeting glimpse of the Turnover roll but it changes before your very eyes, or....................wow my opponents have lots of annoying habits I wonder how I'm so perfect

Finally like many other posters on here I think using dice with symbols is fine but not mixed 1s and sixes. I'm not bothered which as long as I know before the game. Novelty block dice are fine with me too as long as they are easily read from both sides of the table.

I generally agree with you..

It does seem to feel odd that somebody is using your dice...kinda a personal attatchement thing, but I don't feel it is a personal slight if they do ask to use them...

...I do now prefer to use a dice cup of some sort, as I feel that I can be accused of "sliding" dice. I always try to do the "Cocktail Barman" shake before rolling,. This also depends apon how much I've dunk, and how manic I an at the time :D....but always try to get the dice to rattle in the cup to shake Nuffles ifluence off them...the dirty Stunty hating |Git! :|

There are some Block Dice that are hard to quickly decipher at times, even though I may own a set, or be seen across the board (I namely own some of them, but don't use them because of the difficulty of working out which symbol it is, before a opponent sweeps them up to roll again...), so possibly each opponent should ask if it's Ok to use "Such-a-such" set for blocking, if "no" then fall back on a NAF or GW set as a standard etc...

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH over........carry on regardless!
